Hollande says 'France is at war'

"France is committed to "destroying" the so-called Islamic State group after Friday's deadly attacks, President Francois Hollande has said.

He said he would table a bill to extend the state of emergency declared after the attacks for three months and would suggest changes to the constitution.

France's military campaign against IS in Iraq and Syria will also intensify.

IS says it carried out the attacks on bars, restaurants, a concert hall and a stadium in which 129 people died.

Speaking during a joint session of both houses of parliament, Mr Hollande said the constitution needed to be amended as "we need an appropriate tool we can use without having to resort to the state of emergency".

Mr Hollande said he would meet US President Barack Obama and Russian Vladimir Putin in the coming days to discuss action against the group.

He promised more resources for the security forces and said the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier would be sent on Thursday to bolster the military campaign against IS."

how to destroy IS and other jihadists in Syria without handing over victory to Asssad.
France have been adamant they want Asssad gone.
The western geopolitical strategy is in tatters defeat IS and hand victory to Assad,Russia ,Hezbollah
and Iraq our allies Turkey and Saudi Arabia will be happy.
We will still be targets and Jihadists will still be likely leaders of a Sunni insurgency in Syria (and Iraq)
Does anyone out there still think wars of intervention in the Middle East have turned out well?

Are you for fvcking real! The man is taking the fight directly back to IS and will put things in place to make it easier to wipe out more terrorist scum and you pipe up with "What a shame", are on crack or something. Please justify how in any world it a shame!

Yep, I was thinking, quite a reasonable post up until that point. Well, all can say is, if the French are going after ISIS big time, then I'll be cheering them on from the sidelines.
