I'm going to The Azores for a week at the end of February. It looks like temperatures are around 15-18C, so it's not the warmest place but it will feel like a tropical escape from Canadian winter. I can't wait!

I'm also going to some idiot's wedding in Mexico in November.

You will make a sexy bride.

Vegas for a Week in April and Mexico.

Nothing abroad this year for two big reasons. I couldn't get the insurance anyway. But maybe a trip down to Cornwall and Devon. I've a lot to be thankful for. So exhausted though.

Be gently warned, New York has become really 'corporate' in recent years, and actually quite bland and soul-less, and many of the interesting 'independent' shops have been forced out by high rents. This is most noticeable in once-vibrant, bohemian, places like Greenwich Village, which now seems to have been colonised by estate agents, and expensive shops catering exclusively to the bankers and hot-shot lawyers who have moved in.

Unfortunately that has been going on for a few years now. Lots of quirky, quintessentially New York places have been bull dozed to make a quick buck.

The good stuff is still there, you just have to dig a bit deeper and maybe travel a bit further from Manhattan to places like the Bronx, Harlem and Williamsburg and Green Point in Brooklyn - and stay away from places like Hudson Yards which is just a monument to greed (although the Vessel, designed by a Brit, is worth a quick visit)

Have you booked your hotel?

Our's is near the Empire State Building. I admit to using tripadvisor, but always with a cynical eye.

Yep - we are staying at the Hilton opposite the Occulus / 9/11 memorial. Recommended by a colleague. Our second trip in three years and we love the place.

It’s s dream come true for the rest of my family, I’m the only that’s been previously.

I’ve never forgotten the first sight of the lit skyscrapers, on the cab trip from JFK, even though it was decades ago. Apparently, many first visitors say the same thing.
