I'm guessing the oldest one we still sing occasionally is Brighton Aces (Blaydon Races) which must predate even the Peter Ward songs.

The earliest vinyl release AFAIK is Seagulls by Carol Mann in 1979.

Can anyone correct me or am I right?

When did 'Albion... Albion....Albion....Albion' come into existence?

I see your point, but we need to find out when Seagulls fans adopted both. Blaydon Races is an older song than Sussex By The Sea, but which did OUR fans sing first.

Will we ever know?
Did we nick it from Shrewsbury Town?

Oh the lads you should have seen their faces
Going down the Wyle Cop to see the Shrewsbury aces
All the lads and lasses there with smiles upon their faces
Going down the Wyle Cop to see the Shrewsbury aces

Wasn't Sussex by the Sea adapted for the 1910 Charity Shield?

Possibly, I though Newcastle used it first, but I could be wrong!

Rather like Sussex By The Sea, the Blaydon Races isn't just a football chant. It's the regional "national anthem", sung on all occasions when geordies are feeling big about themselves. My grandad lived in Blaydon and my great grandad lived in Scotswood Road.
