Complete rubbish. That is a very English attitude to the game. Neither Franco Baresi nor Lothar Matthaeus were giants yet they played at the top level, often in central defence or as sweepers.
If a player can read the game, has pace and tackle he can play central defence.
Chris Perry is not a tall player, yet he has played his whole career at centre back and at the top level.
