Liverpool fans won't !!!!

Not if the 'truth' implies that ticketless fans turning up late and trying to jump the turnstiles may have in any way been a factor in the chain of tragic events.

Evidence suggests that ticketless fans were not to blame-that probably doesn't sit well with people ready to Barmouth anything Liverpool. Lots of false evidence from the police, aided and abetted by The Sun's despicable portrayal of events does not make Liverpool fans to blame, as much as many of you would like that to be the case. Get your facts from somewhere other than The Sun or West Yorkshire Police. Do you know what happened? Apart from 'ticketless fans trying to jump the turnstiles'?

I know what happened, it was a catastrophic chain of events who's origins can be traced by to the 60's and 70's when football hooliganism saw the fences being erected to keep the 'animals' penned in.

There are so many factors that caused this disaster, my club has some blame, the police have some blame. the FA have some blame, Sheffield City Council have some blame and the late arriving supporters have some blame.

That is the truth, however you want to spin it, it was a well known fact at the time that fans of Liverpool and also Everton would converge en masse to games as close to kick off as possible to try and get in, some would have tickets, others wouldn't it. Sadly that fateful day the consequences of such actions had far reaching implications.

My heart goes out to the 96 innocent people who died at that game.

Someone please remind me who got the blame for the Hysel deaths?

I suspect I know who didn't get the blame.

I agree with this post.

There were obviously many contributing factors to the tragic events of that day and the blame cannot be pinned on just one group but in my opinion each party needs to accept some of the blame and I’m afraid to say this includes a number of Liverpool fans, a large number of whom turned up without tickets when it would have been apparent very few tickets would be available on the day. It’s a horrible fact and one that many will not be prepared to accept but there had been a culture hooliganism amongst Liverpool fans and also a tendency for fans to turn up to matches without tickets on mass, this for me was more than likely a major factor in the disaster.

I don’t like to say it but I’m not afraid to but you only have to look at the behaviour of a minority of Liverpool fans at Heysel and the resulting deaths to see that there WAS an endemic problem with hooliganism amongst some of their fan base at the time. If we are willing to pin much of the blame on Liverpool fans there I’m not sure why there is so much reluctance to do so in the case of Hillsborough.

Because they didn't behave in the same way?

It’s a different situation granted but highlights the culture amongst Liverpool fans at the time. I’m afraid the notion that drunk fans arriving late at Hillsborough were not intimidating the police preventing them entering the stadium and that a number of them weren’t there with the intention of causing trouble just doesn’t wash with me.

This kind of thread usually crops up every mid april. It usually runs to 11 pages at least and usually ends up with nobody changing their opinion.

It usually contains the usual ill thought out, mildly abusive and sometimes downright hysterical comments that we have seen already.

It usually ends up focussing on the liverpool trait of being super sensitive to collective grief (probably not an underserved comment)

At some point someone will have to quote from the Taylor report which will still be ignored by those who dont like what it says because its not what was in The Sun.

The only difference this time is that we have some Sheff Wed fans lurking due to the match this week who perhaps have their own sensitivities to the level of criticism that will come out this wednesday.

let's just tick off one of my check list - This last piece was absolutely dispelled by the Taylor report.

carry on.

Yes, because only Liverpool fans indulged in that kind of culture...

There was a high probability that there were some fans intent on doing that, but that, said Lord Justice Taylor 'was not a significant contributing factor'. In other words, it wasn't down to that that this disaster occurred. He couldn't make it plainer - yet you're choosing to re-write history to suit your own prejudices.

I guess the issue is whether all sides accept the findings this week and are prepared to move forward. I don't think anyone comes out of the Hillsborough incident with any credit.

I suppose there is potential for further legal action especially if the finger is pointed at specific individuals. It won't bring the deceased back but I don't imagine the victims families will rest if there is a chance someone might get jail time.

I think it's the Cabinet papers being released tomorrow, seven years earlier than they would normally be.

Having failed in a private prosecution then I doubt that route will be followed again UNLESS it is proven that information now released would have changed that process. If there is information that has been witheld then it is possible that the Government could be considered to have been in contempt of court because efforts were made to find this information and people were told it didn't exist.

The other significant area would be that the inquest was based on the assumption that all people were dead by 3.15. This meant that no factor relating to the emergency services actions after the incident were covered. A reopened inquest would I suspect be requested come Thursday morning.
