If he had to replace Rooney, why didn't he bring on Butt? Or a defender?

i think he wanted to get a so called 'big man upfront' so every time we punt it out we would have someone up there to hold it and lay it off to the quick vassel. i didnt work because of one fatel flaw....heskey is crap. i just wish defoe had come instead of him. :(

I disagree. I thought Heskey played well (and linked well with Vassell). The constant pressure for (almost) the entire second half meant that a free-kick on the edge of the box was almost inevitable; the midfield and the attack were constantly being sucked backwards, so it was inevitable that, when the free-kick came, it was going to be given away by an attacker or attacking midfielder. In fact, I predicted it about 20mins before it happened. Heskey was unlucky that it was him, that's all.

Is anyone calling for Gerrard to be sent home because of his mistake, which led to the penalty? Er, no. They're not.

Get off the man's back.

Heskey looked knackered the second he stumbled onto the pitch. I don't think he really helped take the pressure off our Midfield and certainly didn't help us defensively. Another midfielder would have been a better choice at the time.

Sven was wrong to make the double substitution. He should of kept 1 sub back to waste a bit of time at the end of the match if needed. Classic football tactic!

Vassell and Rooney were doing fine up front and looked more dangerous than Owen/Rooney. Drop Owen on Thursday and play Vassell from the start. It might give Owen the kick up the butt he needs.

I'm always quick to defend Heskey but let's get one thing straight - he was GASH last night. He didn't do his job.

IMHO Heskey shouldn't even be in the squad .... there are at least six other English strikers who should have been before him including Dafoe, Smith, Sutton and Beattie

even Fowler would get my vote over Heskey!
