Risky appointment IMO, I’m torn because he’s obviously a good motivator but PL level players quite often don’t respond well to that type of thing.

Apparently he is close friends with someone high up in the Southampton hierarchy. If he does get the gig it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
Southampton seem a fairly stable club, all things considered. Especially in comparison to Stoke City....albeit it's a step up a division, to the top table.

He may well struggle with the squad they have, and will probably want an assurance that he gets to rebuild if they go down. Otherwise, he may be better staying where he is.
Alternatively, if he can be a success in the next 12 to 18 months the Chelsea job might come up and he'll be financially set up for life!

Seems a weird appt if it happens. Almost like Stains are gearing themselves for the championship
Hard to see Jones getting a better offer unless he achieves something incredible with Luton (like promotion).
Blimey, I'd have thought Southampton would have wanted a much better quality manager than Jones. He failed in the Championship, what on earth makes them think he's PL standard? Very surprised he's even in the frame. Are they expecting to be back in League One shortly?

Their Director of Football Rasmus Ankersen is the one driving the appointment. Apparently he wanted Jones in at Brentford, before they appointed Thomas Frank.
Good deal for Luton again.
Let him go whilst collecting some compensation and re-appoint him on a free when he's sacked in a few months time.

I'm not sure how getting Luton to last seasons Championship playoffs is a failure. Sure he failed with Stoke, but his two tenures at Luton have been very good. How much that means when it comes to his PL credentials remains to be seen, but for a manager like Nathan Jones he'd be stupid to turn down an offer to manage a PL club.
