Could happen. Yes, easy to imagine.

I don't think it will, though.

Germany often get written off in tournaments. They're in the quarter-finals and it looks as though you're writing them off this time. I'm not saying they'll beat France, but this quarter-final, along with the Colombia-Brazil one, are worth getting excited about.

I'm not writing them off. I'm saying they've got no chance IF they play like this. They could win the WC. At the moment they're in 1st gear though, and need to be in 4th pretty darn soon.

ALLEDGED! :lolol:

Have you ever seen the game? Or even some 'highlights'?

Both teams looked as though there were snipers lined up for them, with short range guns that could only reach them in the opponents half.

Cracking gig and what I saw of the game was pretty good as well. Some great contributions to this thread to boot. Obviously pleased Germany are through and the France game should be good. Germany have come up against two pretty good African sides and still not lost lost. A good sign I think.

There's no rush. I'm sure they'll move through the gears when they need to.

Algeria have done themselves proud. They are not shit. Germany did well to dig in and beat them, and they are not alone in being a bit light in defence (Argentina?)

They could quite easily win it, and I think they'll beat France.

Time will tell.

A point was made on the BBC that every remaining team has deficiencies. It's a very open tournament

Germany not having a decent striker is costing them here

Just as well all of their midfield a regular scorers. As an aside we have yet to see the best of Gotze. I think his time will come shortly.

Didn't call Algeria shit, but Germany have got ZERO chance of getting past France playing like that, let alone WINNING it.

France could rip them apart like Algeria did, but they have world class players to put them away. France could win by 3 or 4.
I don't agree. France also only limped past Nigeria in the same way as Germany did with Algeria. All the teams (even the best) have their deficiencies now that the Spanish golden years appear to have past.

As an aside, this round of 16 has been absolute quality. The best CONCACAF and African nations are now clearly at a similar level to second tier European/Conmebol nations (and there are only 6 or 7 in the top tier across those two confederations really), which means that in a one-off game, they are very much in with a shout of beating the best. Asia is in danger of being left behind.

France looked far, far, far, far better in defence against Nigeria than Germany did against Algeria. And France didn't look that great in defence.

Agreed on this WC - absolutely superb all the way through so far.

They're gonna get Muller-ed

We'll see, should be a cracker. I'd love to see what your critique would've been if England had played like that against Algeria (hint: think it's fair to say it would be SLIGHTLY more negative).

Had England put in yet another match-winning performance against Algeria and won themselves a quarter final game against France with Rooney joint top-scorer and with the tournament's best-dressed manager at the helm I would have given them the praise the would have clearly deserved. I'm objective in my critique.

You would've said their finishing was woeful, very brittle in defence, they were staggering around and are waiting to get knocked out by France. Go on, admit it, you cheeky tinker.
