[Help] Hernia surgery

Had mine more than 8 years now. Never any pain but it's been getting bigger lately, maybe I should see GP again.

Did you see your GP? If you don't mind me asking. I had a scan yesterday. Told I have an inguinal hernia and report will go to GP.
Got the impression I'm just supposed to live with it.

An inguinal hernia isn't necessarily dangerous. It doesn't improve on its own, however, and can lead to life-threatening complications. Your doctor is likely to recommend surgery to fix an inguinal hernia that's painful or enlarging. Inguinal hernia repair is a common surgical procedure.

Had this done a few years ago. Out of hospital two hours later, and back at work in two days (would obviously be longer if your job involved heavy lifting or other strenuous physical activity).

Absolutely no problems or repercussions since then.

Worse thing was the constipation caused by the post-op pain killers I took for a few days while the incision healed!

Yep. That and the tube up the willy were probably the lowlights for me.

The highlight was that I was told by all my friends "it'll just be a keyhole surgery" and I got left with a 3 inch scar to make it look like something terrible happened.

Yes, I saw GP and had an ultrasound about 8 weeks ago. Later, GP said it confirmed an inguinal hernia but not 'football-sized' or painful so no need for operation.
However, I got him to agree to do referral. Still waiting for an appointment with a consultant, I guess NHS waiting list is long.

They'll have to operate sooner or later because it will get larger, more painful, and potentially dangerous (strangulated bowel is a risk).

Unfortunately I think you need to exaggerate pain to get anywhere. I was told waiting list is long, but better to be on it. Good
