Tragically it's hardly a news item any longer, it happens all too frequently.

And that is the sad reality of the gun situation in America. They won't do anything to help themselves when a major shooting takes place ( Citing the right to bear arms and the NRA-ILA being a major political lobbying organisation ). No matter how many innocent lives are lost they will not change their laws to combat the situation.

A fair few of the podcasts I listen to are American (naturally East or West Coast liberal elite!) and they no longer discuss mass shootings.

One in particular is/was an even split between sports, politics and the inane (all get beaten out by signs of the animal revolution  ) and they really can't bring themselves to cover politics anymore.
They start the conversations, sigh and move onto (with glee) a story about an alligator eating someone.

The truly sad thing is that it's only these 'mass shootings' that make the news, when the numbers killed and injured in them are verging on insignificant when compared to regular and accidental shootings and suicides carried out with firearms.

In the first 43 days of 2018 America experienced:

18 school shootings
29 mass shootings
1,796 total gun deaths
3,099 total injuries

That's a damning indictment of the American way of thinking when they can't even bring themselves to discuss mass shootings. It's as though they believe that if they don't mention it then it didn't happen!

It comes across more as just beaten down by the continuing cycle, 'what can we do' discussions went out the window a long time ago.

Same arguments on this topic could apply to all the terrorist attacks in the UK.

Yes, I can empathise with that point of view when the American public know a tragic event has taken place and nothing will change no matter what has happened.
