Myself and another couple of people go out on a Wednesday night in Brighton and give soup and tea to rough sleepers, we have only been able to do this off and on for the last few months and tonight I learned the other guys that did it with me won't be able to do it from now on. We only do it when it's especially cold but I would like to make it a regular thing. I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help out at all? I heat up all the soup and tea at home and provide the styrofoam cups and put it all in flasks etc so won't cost you anything (we take dog treats as well, so if any of you have dogs if you could spare a few, always appreciated). We go from Kemptown to Church St from 10 to 12 at night so obviously not ideal for a lot of you but I pay your bus fare home if you don't live near Church St. We will only go in pairs, hence why I am asking if anyone would be able to lend their time at all? It looks like we are in for another cold spell so the folks on the streets of Brighton could do with a hot drink/soup. Thanks for reading, Nibble.

Thank you, I'm trying to set something more stable up, get people to donate warm clothes, treats etc. I will check with Bozza if he's okay with me posting more on this on here though. We are not aiming to solve peoples problems but give them 5 minutes of comfort when we can. I was homeless for sometime but I luckily had friends and family, a lot of these guys have nothing and from what I've seen so far a cup of summat hot and a couple of mins of conversation is much appreciated. Thanks.

There are some that won't help themselves but some that really struggle for various reasons.

I too applaud you for your efforts. Sadly there are not enough people like you in this world.

Thank you,Yes, you are right, some really don't help themselves and many struggle. Either way everyone deserves a bit of help, I went out on my own for a bit tonight but really not comfortable doing it on my own. Funnily enough it's not the homeless that give me any grief but drunken folks. That's why we do it in Wednesday's, far fewer people out on the lash!

Well done mate, if I lived remotely close to Brighton I'd be up for this for a couple of nights and certainly bring along some dog treats too! Spent 10mins chatting the other week to a bloke, just had a lot of personal problems including drink. Gave him a fiver wished him luck and I know he'll spend on drink more likely but if it helped take away the pain for a second then who am I to judge? Best of British to you Nibble, good work

Absolutely mate, It all helps. I'msure most of them would rather have booze but I cannot afford to break out the beers with them all! Unfortunately they have the choice of Asda budget tomato or chicken soup and 1 economy roll! I lived on that shit for years though, so can't be too bad!!

Fair play to you mate, I think it's a lovely idea. I live in Worthing, and my mrs works late on a Wednesday (plus I don't drive), but she's got a couple of weeks off in a few weeks time, can't promise anything, but I wouldn't mind picking up some dog treats on my way home from work tomorrow and bringing them up to the game on Saturday. PM me your number, and I'll text you when im outside the ground, will bring something with me, even if it's just a packet of Bonio's :D

Mate that's a great offer but I can't get to games for a while as I'm working every weekend for the next couple of months, but when I'm back I'd be happy to relieve you of some dog treats, maybe a weeknight match though?

It's great what you are doing but I just wondered if you knew that there are Brighton based homeless charities such as 'Off The Fence' and others who have been doing this for years?

Off The Fence have this season done a collection of clothes at the Amex and also publicised their charity single on the big screens.

They are an amazing organisation who are out on the streets saving lives and also providing great daytime support too trying to get people's lives turned around.

It maybe worth at least a call to Off The Fence to let them know what and when you are doing stuff so the city wide help is co-ordinated.

I know the couple who run this now quite large organisation if you need an intro.

Check their website out - lots of info.

I'm also aware of St Peters church (the big one on The Old Steine) doing lots of great work with the homeless too.

not local I'm afraid but hope you get the support you need. Have you set up a justgiving page? Plenty of us would happily contribute I suspect

Thanks people, I will take all your suugestions onboard and come upi with a more coherant plan, justgiving etc. All it has been so far is literally 2 of us going out when we can. I have been reluctant to get involved with charities as I haven't really been keen to get absorbed into a charity but could be worth contacting them.
