[Misc] Help with a cryptic clue please

A company cryptic quiz has been circulated and I can't answer a couple of the clues. I'll bet NSC can help. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

These are the two I am stuck on:

Compressed inside a seed enclosure (2, 1, 8)

Authority to carry out a nice dinner for a couple of guys (7)

I'll post all the questions on the next post in case you like this kind of thing. Thanks for your help.

I'm in awe of folk who can get cryptic crossword clues, my brain is simply not wired that way.

Oh man, me neither. There's a splendid episode of Inside No. 9 on the iPlayer that uses cryptic crossword puzzles as the plot device, but I had to keep pressing pause to get my brain to catch up!

Me too! I can do some crosswords.

I think it's just because I don't have the patience for it.

Apparently there's rules to cryptic clues in crosswords bit I've never even bothered to find out what they are...
