Help Needed - Fund Raising Ideas

Hello Fine People Of NSC

I need help in ideas to raise money for charidee.

The general story goes, I need to raise £2500 by the end of the year.

The money will be for sponsorship for me and the lovely Miss Lord Bracknell to CYCLE around the whole of CUBA raising money Computer Aid. The money goes towards refurbishing old computers so that they can be used to educate children in poorer parts of the world.

The trip lasts 10days and covers 30-40 miles a day

I know the interweb has justgiving.com which I can set up to ask for sponsorship, I can ask friends, family, great message boards for donations, but I was just seeing if there are any novel/interesting ways to raise money as I've never been involved in raising such a large amount of £££'s before

Any useful input would be muchly welcomed

Brett :)

Have you tried getting people to sponsor you for every goal you score this season?

On second thaughts, you might need a DECADE to raise that sort of cash!

Affiliate yourself with a registered charity so you can reclaim the tax on donations, for a start.

Try your employer - perhaps an I.T. company or a bike shop too (it's linked innit).

Try one of the Cuba / South America themed bars with in Brighton.

Organise a charidee quiz/karaoke night in a friendly pub. If you pick a Mon-Wed when they tend to be less full you may get the venue for free. People part with more money when they're pished. FACT.

You can try your local Rotary club for a donation.
Maybe the Princes Trust if you're young?
As it's for children maybe you could try Children in Need.

or google it

Rotary Club is a great idea. So is Round Table and Lions for that matter.
In return for the donation, you might have to give a presentation / talk on your trip when you get back. These organisations often have a lot of money that they want to give to good causes but just don't get approached for it. They also like to see young people doing responsible things which benefit the community.

If you are looking for sponsorship money that will be paid directly to Computer Aid, then do it through them, assuming they are a registered charity so they get the gift aid tax relief.

If you are asking people to contribute towards the cost of your holiday to Cuba, this is not a charitable purpose and I don't think any tax breaks would be available.

It all goes through Computer Aid, and they do get tax relief (via justgiving.com)
But obviously not everyone can donate online, so im just looking for other ways of reaching more people to get more money.

I once sponsored someone a tenner to shave their balls (and arse crack). All for a good cause, non?

A good website should do the trick, in part. Myself and some friends raised about £7,000 by cycling the South Downs Way for Eastbourne SCBU. We made a website that said why we were doing it, who we were, and how much money we raised. It seemed to do the trick quite well (especially as I work for a large company and e-mailed a few people the URL to forward round).

Also us lot cycling the SDW was a bit of a laugh as well, as we gave ourselves just 7 weeks to get fit for it, and some of the guys hadn't ridden for 4/5 years.

im not the fittest, i dont even own a bike at the moment, but that will change in the next couple of weeks - then i got about 3 months to prepare and raise the money :)
