Can anyone suggest a (serious) career for me? I've been on the phone to so many agencies (yes, I've seen the other thread) and they all seem like a bunch of goons.

Apparantly I've heard there is a newly available vagrant role at a well known Wolverhampton ring road.

I feel your pain, Notters, I've got a very ominous meeting at 5pm today, looks odds on that I will be going the same way! Better give me a good package, you buggers.

Take a year off and go travelling on your redundancy money. Best thing I ever did

.

I'm not getting any redundancy as I'm an agency worker. My friends that have been here 3 months longer than me (and therefore have permanent jobs) are getting £10,000!!!

I'm a pharmaceutical fermentation scientist by the way.

There is only one thing for it.............the brewery trade

I've already phoned and writted to Harveys several times! Just hope that an opening will appear there. Trouble is I really don't want to leave Brighton, particularly as I've literally just moved into a new flat (last week!)

I'm also expecting to be made redundant today. Been here less than 2 months but contract states 3 months written notice from either party and I've got a job lined up for January start. I figure they will want me out the door immediately so I'm expecting an offer in lieu of notice.

It's the first time i've been in this situation, does anyone know if redundancy payments are taxable pay?? Any other tips from others who've negotiated redundancy packages??

Redundancy pay is tax free under £30,000

It's that time of the year again isn't it. I got made redundant two years ago, but a new position came up which they offered me so I didn't leave in the end. Hopefully I'm safe this year. It's a shit position to be in knowing you're on dodgy ground, good luck to those who might be.

That can be great but it can also backfire. Kind of depends on your personality.

I tried to do it 20 years or so again the first time (there have been 2 more since) I got made redundant. Trouble is that I'm a worrier so I spent too much time fretting about how long the money would last and what would I do next instead of enjoying travelling (Australia & Far East - recommend them to anyone). In the end I came back and got a job and that was rubbish too!

Next time I was redundant I found a crap job that paid the rent and put the redundancy money in the bank so I had a bit of secutrity and then looked around for what I really wanted to do. It took a while but it worked and I did the same thing the third time
