I have decided, after much thought, to send out this next
item. I know it will not be to everyone's taste and I really

Brighton & Hove Albion Chairman In Plea
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION Chairman Dick Knight is calling on all
football fans to write to John Prescott, urging him to give
Brighton's new stadium the green light.
The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to decide shortly as to
whether the club will be allowed to build their proposed new
stadium - which The Seagulls desperately need in order to survive.
However, an Inspector's report, released 4th February, has proved
an unwelcome setback in the city. It has recommended against the
stadium being built on the site already accepted by the City
Council - and the Inspector completely ignores the fact the club
has demonstrated a robust planning case, and has overwhelming
support from the public and City Council.
In response to this Knight is calling on all football fans to
write to Prescott and express their dismay at the report produced
by the Local Plan Inspector. Knight said, "In the past many fans
from other clubs have helped Brighton & Hove Albion - at the
memorable Fans United days. Once again as Chairman of Brighton I
am asking football fans to help us - this time in our bid for a
new stadium and ultimately the survival of our club.
"I am asking all fans to write to the Deputy Prime Minister John
Prescott urgently. It would be totally unfair for this club and
its fans - not to mention this city and the local community - to
be denied their right to a modern stadium simply because compelling
facts have been casually dismissed by this Inspector."
To help you do this, we have set out below some of the key points
to make:
- The report does not recognise the very real difficulties of
finding a suitablesite in the Brighton & Hove area
- It does not reflect the overwhelming public support for the
stadium project at Falmer and the detailed consultation process
that took place prior to selecting the site
The planning application clearly demonstrated:
* The club's need for a new stadium
* It provided evidence of the national importance of Brighton &
Hove Albion Football Club
* It set out the huge number of jobs and opportunities for
education and skills training that would be provided by the
development
* It included an innovative sustainable transport scheme
* It demonstrated that the Falmer site had the least impact of any
of the very few potential sites for a stadium in the Brighton &
Hove area
None of these points were taken into account in the Inspector's
recommendations - and letter writers should ask Mr Prescott to
take these factors into account when he makes his decision.

I believe you should do this for the following reasons:
1. Brighton & Hove is a city of national importance and its
football club is important as part of the national league
competitions in our national sport.

city hemmed in by the South Downs and the sea.
