Earley, actually
From CPFRIS - an e mail service for Palace fans - many thanks to my flatmate who forwarded them the press release yesterday
-----------------------------------------------

--important note--

(RJ) In the light of this article and because of the potential for
Palace to be in a similar situation if we don't buy Selhurst,
I have decided, after much thought, to send out this next
item. I know it will not be to everyone's taste and I really
apologise to those of you who think this has no place on
CP-FRIS. I also hope it doesn't mean my inbox will suffer a
meltown!

Brighton, it would seem, are asking for our help.

PRESS RELEASE: IMMEDIATE
------------------------
Brighton & Hove Albion Chairman In Plea

BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION Chairman Dick Knight is calling on all
football fans to write to John Prescott, urging him to give
Brighton's new stadium the green light.

The Deputy Prime Minister is expected to decide shortly as to
whether the club will be allowed to build their proposed new
stadium - which The Seagulls desperately need in order to survive.

However, an Inspector's report, released 4th February, has proved
an unwelcome setback in the city. It has recommended against the
stadium being built on the site already accepted by the City
Council - and the Inspector completely ignores the fact the club
has demonstrated a robust planning case, and has overwhelming
support from the public and City Council.

In response to this Knight is calling on all football fans to
write to Prescott and express their dismay at the report produced
by the Local Plan Inspector. Knight said, "In the past many fans
from other clubs have helped Brighton & Hove Albion - at the
memorable Fans United days. Once again as Chairman of Brighton I
am asking football fans to help us - this time in our bid for a
new stadium and ultimately the survival of our club.

"I am asking all fans to write to the Deputy Prime Minister John
Prescott urgently. It would be totally unfair for this club and
its fans - not to mention this city and the local community - to
be denied their right to a modern stadium simply because compelling
facts have been casually dismissed by this Inspector."

To help you do this, we have set out below some of the key points
to make:

- The report does not recognise the very real difficulties of
finding a suitablesite in the Brighton & Hove area
- It does not reflect the overwhelming public support for the
stadium project at Falmer and the detailed consultation process
that took place prior to selecting the site

The planning application clearly demonstrated:

* The club's need for a new stadium
* It provided evidence of the national importance of Brighton &
Hove Albion Football Club
* It set out the huge number of jobs and opportunities for
education and skills training that would be provided by the
development
* It included an innovative sustainable transport scheme
* It demonstrated that the Falmer site had the least impact of any
of the very few potential sites for a stadium in the Brighton &
Hove area

None of these points were taken into account in the Inspector's
recommendations - and letter writers should ask Mr Prescott to
take these factors into account when he makes his decision.

Letters should be sent directly to:

Mr John Prescott
Deputy Prime Minister
26 Whitehall
London SW1A 2WH

Knight added, "We would urge all football supporters to take the
time to write immediately - we want John Prescott to know the
strength of feeling about this issue."

ENDS - 4th February 2004

Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

Dear Mr Prescott,

I am writing to urge you to approve the plans for a community
stadium for Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club at Falmer,
Brighton.

I believe you should do this for the following reasons:

1. Brighton & Hove is a city of national importance and its
football club is important as part of the national league
competitions in our national sport.

2. The evidence shows that the site identified by the city council
at Falmer is the only viable one for a community stadium in a
city hemmed in by the South Downs and the sea.

3. A community stadium is essential for the well-being of any town
or city. It brings communities together, provides opportunities
in sport, education and employment, and enables the local
football club to fulfil its potential within the community and
for the benefit of it.

Please approve the plans for Brighton & Hove's community stadium.

Yours sincerely

Brighton are our rivals,we take the piss (too easy sometimes) and hey all well and good...But I would hate to see any football club go to the wall and the Brighton fans that are coming to our site are fighting for there clubs survival so aside from the football lets give it a break from all the bullshit.

If you want to help them help them, if not go to another thread (on the football side of things) and tell them to feck off and call them shirt-lifters etc but giving crap on a thread like this it just make you (and us) look brainless .

Remember a lot of Brighton fans did help us (the Trust) with donations when we were in the sh!t so fairs fair.

sorry i can't help you more on the bbs i'm still banned!

From a similar thread on the same forum...

Thankd guys!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And I agree, they can piss off, where were they when we were in admin??? •••• them and Falmer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where were they? Well quite a few were helping out with donations. Every clubs has it's idiot supporters that don't seem to understand the bigger picture about the importance of not letting one club after another go out of business.

I'd like to think that Palace fans are a better bunch that most, especially considering our recent dice with death. Sadly from your posts and others on here, it would appears that we've got a full quota of idiot supporters as well.:clap2:

I knew some of the Palace fans would support us - they are committed fans like us really - except they have a terrible taste in footie teams.

Thanks Palace fans - hope you get out of 13th place in the table.
