Perhaps this is insensitive to our members living in that area, but I cannot fathom why anyone from the UK would choose to holiday in any of the Arabic states. The amount of people I know that 'pop to Dubai' for a short break is always surprising. I can't think of many places I would rather not go. Even if you aren't one of the unlucky few to fall foul of their rules, you're still supporting a regime that treats women and non-married straight men like 'the West' did about 500 years ago.

This debate isn't about the two-faced nature of our Government's dealings with them, it's simply me wondering why the hell anyone would holiday over there.

I'd rather go to work rather than have a free fully paid holiday anywhere over there. Besides everything mentioned already, what is there to actually do there?

I had to work in Dubai once, it was only for a week but it felt like much longer. No money on this earth would tempt me to go back there.

If you think Dubai is bad never ever consider Saudi. Personally I have never had any problem in the Emirates, I have always enjoyed Dubai and Abu Dhabi but the rest of the region is very much a different story.

West, West, West Sussex.
I suggest you go to a group called 38 degrees. They have a large network and specialise in something like this.

Once you sign a 38 degrees petition expect about six emails a day for the rest of your life. I opted out and suddenly another group with similar left leaning politics started emailing every day.

Signed & shared , what an awful country to be willing to lock someone up for that amount of time for such a trivial matter

I would never consider SA, I was offered some work there once and it never crossed my mind to go. I've worked for a couple of companies that specialised in ME work, I'm grateful that I've moved on and never have to go to the region again.

I've signed the petition, of course. Poor sod.

Done. Middle east can be tricky.
After working for a military enterprise in Saudi, I left to work for the Saudi Bus Company as Superintendent of communications (My grandest title). One of our drivers was hit by a Saudi Prince at a junction in Riyadh, and our driver was arrested..of course..
Nobody knew where he was, what jail he was in, and the Saudi Authorities were being pretty shit about the whole thing. The poor sod committed suicide. Good luck with this, hope it achieves something.

Done. I would say the 2 Russian guys deserve something like this, including their ridiculous story. There is no justice in the world.
