Help - Connecting my Laptop to my TV

I have just got my hands on an RGB cable that looks like this

I have been told I can connect my laptop to my LCD TV using it, but I want to know is, does it also take sound as well as picture, as it would be WICKERD to have this working with the Cricket coming up, as well as having 4oD, BBC Iplayer, boysfood and Justin TV

If it doesnt take sound, what cable will I need to get the sound coming out from the TV instead of the limited sound coming out the laptop?

Thank you please x

Can't help you, but it's nice for you to know that you are at the cutting edge of convergence - where TV and internet usage are becoming one and the same. Services like 4OD and BBCi mean that conventional programming will eventually disappear and TV will be on demand, and you'll be using the same "interface" for watching TV and using web services - probably at the same time.

Will be interesting to see what advertisers do with this. There is already talk about being able to click on products that are in a TV programme and have a new screen pop up with price and specification details for the product. Might be interesting for cars for example.

what does that cable look like, and what is it called?

Output from the socket on your laptop where you would plug headphones in. Cable will normally have a red and a white phone connector on the the [TV] end.

Isn't this a difference in RGB and YC thingy ? Erm... not sure about this but I think there's a difference between the signal a TV can handle and the signal a projector can handle. I may be completely wrong.

They are both standards of carrying video, not audio.

RGB splits the signal into Red, Green and Blue (component video), while YC (S-Video) has a single colour and a single black and white signal.
