A long shot by try looking at your "hibernate/Shutdown" section in Control Panel/Display....Apart from that may i suggest a virus scan...as long as you can stay on long enough! :lolol:

Have you got a firewall? If not, why not? That's how these things might happen.

Try starting your computer in safe mode. See what happens. It might be driver related or summat...

I was having it on my other pc,

I disconnected the internet and it works fine its just when i'm connected.

I am running a virus check at the moment.

If it is because I don't have a firewall how do i get one?

Right, my IT support monkey housemate says the following:

Sounds like you're being hacked. Block port 135 on your firewall. Then run windows update and instal all critical updates - specifically ms03-026.

Yes, he is a geek!!!

;)

I wish I could!!!!

:lolol:

I'm guessing here that he meant that the firewall settings needed to be changed so that port 135 is blocked.

Then run the Windows Update program and instal the critical updates that it lists, especially ms03-026.

Sorry, I'm a software tester not a network support manager!!

My housmate says:

does he have Windows XP? If he does, he can enable the firewall through his network properties. Otherwise he may well be screwed.

I think that's all I'll get out of him now 'cos he's gone to bed. Unlike me he has a job to go to in the morning!!!

No I don't think he has. He's just gone back to his house for something. I do though. Better enable mine I think.

If you've got XP you should have been sent an auto-update by Microsoft for this about a week ago. If you installed it you should probably be okay. It was such a big hole in the system that it made the news!!
