Should have been sent off three times

Defender being the last man doesn't matter. If a defender brings down a forward with only the keeper behind him it's a red for a professional foul. In this case the keeper took the role of the defender in making the foul.

As blatant a red as you can see.

I saw it like this approximately. Depends on the referee. First and Heaton could have been sent off for a reckless dangerous attempt at a challenge and as last man (covering defender though).

Second was a caution for throwing the ball up in the air (almost automatic), and what was Heaton doing deliberately getting involved with Buckley (trying to provoke him thinking he was Barnes?). Second as a caution unless it was accidental which it wasn't, and could be construed as unsportsmanship which could be a sending off as well.

Lucky to get away with just a one match ban.

http://spiffyd.hubpages.com/hub/Soc...n-a-dangerous-manner-versus-serious-foul-play Referee was not wrong by the letter of the law. He could have sent Heaton off first time around and been right. As the web page said a matter of centimetres.

I think the focus on the denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity has been because a reckless tackle is punishable by a caution. It is doubtful whether Heaton used excessive force.

But he did go in with his foot - studs up and made contact knee high.
Anyone but a goalkeeper and that is an automatic red card.

Schumacker-like play from Heaton but he missed!

Seriously foul play means making contact. Will Buckley was too quick.
