Seeing as the school have gone back on their decision, and have now said that flags will not be banned, this is a complete non-story.

I seem to remember them latching onto it after Euro 96.

Well *millions* of people around the country proudly displayed St George flags four years ago, so I think it's been claimed back since then!!

Totally. It's aways been the people's flag (as apposed to the racist simpleton's). I just remember that after the popularity of the flag around Euro '96 these minority groups seemed to think they could co-opt for their own purposes. Good to see they singularly failed. :)

I'm not saying its right, I'm just saying there's always one. It also makes a good story for a local paper as it will provoke reaction. Like this thread will get over 50 replies.

And so it f***ing should. It is an outrage! If they banned the display of some muslim shite, there would be legal action from some PC quango. :nono:

It's worth keeping in mind it's is just some head teacher who probably doesn't have a clue what they're doing in the first place; hence their hasty backtracking after it was pointed out how moronic they were being.

Some do like to attach too much weight to these things. From the reaction to their decision, one clueless teacher clearly speaks for noone other than themselves and their own misguided attempt at keeping the peace. If this area is infested with racist scum who use the flag for their own ends, then you can kind of see where they were coming from with it, even if they are clearly over reacting.

brighton, actually
are other flags also being banned?

could be an interesting race(?) discrimination case, if the parents kicked up (and rightly so).

I personally feel the the BNP are trading on peopl'e ill-conceived fears about .johnny foreigner' - we are alll foreignes, in another country!

I dot (feel the need) to wave a flag (Uion Jack, or St George) around at home, to know or prove where I come from- I am English (except if I am in some dodgy pub in Scotland, where i am 'British', just playing safe, in case!)

though at any large event (sport/music, whatever) it's good to see people with flags from EVERYWHERE- all mixed together, having fun.

banning one (or more) flag is just the slippery slope to more fear, hate and suffering..

(sorry star wars fans, but it seemed appropriate!)
