Got back two weeks ago. Loved all of it. The advice here is spot on. Walk everywhere, and if you see a church stop in, no matter how unassuming it is from the outside.

Fantastic place.
As others have said just walk around - you will stumble across a lot in a short time

St Peter's basilica is quite an incredible place if you like incredibly opulent churches. (although an obvious suggestion)
I loved it - My partner (who is Catholic) did not.

The hidden churches is one of the things that blew me away the most. You walk up to a very un assuming entrance to a church and you walk in to see the most magnificent churches I've ever seen.

I can't remember the name of the area but in the bit on the map where there river snakes round there are a whole load of narrow lanes and side streets with restaurants and bars on which we absolutely loved.

Rome is very compact and easy to walk everywhere.

Just outside the city, the catacombs are well worth a visit.

However, beware of theives. We were robbed, without even realising, whilst waiting for a train.

I went to Rome at the end of July and stayed across the river from Trastevere. Wonderful area with loads of hidden churches, cafes and bars . We did a fantastic food tour of the area, company was called Gourmetaly. Thoroughly recommend this.

I saw Roma play in the Olympic stadium a few years ago. Quite a pre match experience. I notice that they are playing Udinese tomorrow (Sat) at 5pm. We bought tickets at the official sellers at the ground. Could be an option?

Walk absolutely but don't try and fit in too much. Just wander and stop at plenty of cafes to watch the world go by. Don't begrudge the time. Also, in hot weather Rome has the worlds most hardest pavements, respect your feet.

If it's anything like my trip to Milan v Bologna a few years ago then Quite an experience is an understatement. The Curva Nord kicked the arse off the North Stand....

....but the Mrs likes football so we might well head up there.

Thanks LB. Am the most conscious I've been in a European city about this threat so have taken sensible precautions.

The Capuchin crypt on Via Vittorio Veneto is decorated with the remains of Capuchin monks and if you keep walking you'll get to Villa Borghese where there is a great big lovely old park.

Millwall fans claim that Bermondsey has the hardest pavements while Leeds fans will tell you there's nothing harder than good, honest YORKSHIRE pavement. The debate continues.......
