Want HD TV. To those that have gone before....What should I get? It doesn't have to be the cheapest but I would like to be able to renew my season ticket. Thanks.

The first thing you need to decide is Plasma or LCD.

Plasma handles dark colours/blacks better than LCD, but the colour isn't quite as bright and vibrant. LCD's are lighter (weightwise) and completely unsusceptible to screenburn. And unlike Plasmas, the screens on LCD's are non-reflective - a BIG advantage if there's a lot of light in the room.

After weighing it all up, I opted for LCD and have been DELIGHTED with it. The plasmas are still excellent these days, but LCD edges it for me (the non-reflectiv screen was the CLINCHER for me).

Easy is correct. I have LCD and chose it because you don't get screen burn on LCD TV's whereas it is commonplace on Plasma's. Especially that darned annoying red button at the top corner.

Also, If you want to use the TV for a PC monitor, then LCD is better.

You want it but do you need it?

Whats screen burn.

It is where a shadow appears of, for example, the TV guide banneror the red button on satellite & Cable and you can't get rid of it for ages.

You see it sometimes in pubs that leave their plasma's on all day.

In fact I spoke to someone the other day who used their Plasma with their PC and they had the windows bar burnt onto the bottom of their screen.

Thats where I bought my LCD. Came with a 3 year warranty, which I bumped up to 5 years for an extra £70.

Currys can suck my dick.

The new plasmas are (apparently) a lot less susceptible to screenburn nowadays, although the stores do still recommend you have them on low contrast for the first week or so when they're new.

I'd just be too paranoid though. I've always got Sky Sports News on, and those banners are really BRIGHT. And once those screens are burnt, there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.

The Panasonic LCD range IMO are some of the best around - they can be a bit more expensive than some comparative models but I think they are worth the extra.

Other people reckon the Sharp Aquos range and Sony's Bravia LCD's are good too, but my experience of the Panasonic has been excellent so far.

The answer you wanted Les is

'It's like carpet burn, but you get it from the screen'?
