Lying bastards in Comet, lying bastards in Sky, slightly less than accurate bastards at the BBC... I'm amazed that most people even manage to buy a TV these days ;)

Check this place out so you can seperate the hype from the truth.

Its place where where grown men wank themselves silly over £200 gold plated cables but you might just learn something useful.

I concluded that HD is best left alone till the technology beds in here, the glitches are sorted, and more importantly the prices drop. £10 a month extra SKY HD subscription for example:angry:

If you've not got the TV for it, I'd agree entirely - don't go buying a HDTV now for HD because it'll be outclassed within a year, and the early decoders are slow, buggy heaps of shit.

My problem was that a year ago my old CRT packed up totally so it was new telly time by default. My Philips LCD is a nice piece of kit but now £300 cheaper and it only has one HDMI output which as some point in the future may be a problem if its connected to the SKY+ box and an HD DVD. Thanks to that geek site i now know i'll need a switcher:angry:

For info, the BBC Planet Earth series is stunning in HD. What live footie will be like is another matter.

Live footie in HD is fantastic PROVIDED ypou are watching it on a proper HD ready screen and the screen is BIG

I watched the 2002 World Cup Final live at the BBC in HD on a screen the size of a small cinema and it was just like having a seat in the stadium.

But on a small-ish (under 40 inches) it loses some of its impressiveness.

BBC will also be showing Wimbledon coverage, Planet Earth, Bleak House etc again in HD

Let me know what make/model of box they give you when you get it, will you? RTÉ are going to be doing hi-def DTT tests here soon and I'm considering getting in a box on spec - because the BBCs transmission system is the most complex around and if a box can do it, it can probably do RTÉs too.

Picking up mine tomorrow but FYI... the model is Humax HDCI-2000T.

Thanks. Doesn't appear to be available to the general public yet - but its just gonna be the satellite box with a different tuner card I guess.

Hrm, gonna phone Humax in the guise of one of my satellite installing relatives on Tuesday...

We needed to upgrade out TV. Managed to persuade the missus before the world cup. We got a top of the range 42" panansonic hd plasma. I looked at various deals online, but decided to buy in the panasonic shop after a bit of umming and arrring and being a load of incentives, including a gaurantee until world cup 2010.

Its fantatic with just the normal sky box. We have booked our SKY HD box, being fitted July 10th. The day after the world cup final, bad timing or what. I will post another reply when its in to let you know if its worth the money

My TV is about 6 years old, Sony 21' FST, picture quality is excellent, easily good enough for anything I want to watch and didn't cost a fortune, can't see me replacing it unless it breaks down.
