No arguments from me. I wasn't advocating a loan - simply answering Swanny's suggestion that arranging one would be financially problematic.

We also don't know if van Hecke's unspecified injury is an "out for the season" or "back in a month" one. If a loan out isn't possible, Jan Paul vH may be the chosen centre back to stay.

We have Van Hecke as well. The last I read on here he was injured but he's 21 now so either a loan or a flit between the U23s and senior squad may be on for him? I have no idea if he or Roberts are better regarded by GP.

Not sure if people have seen the interview with Ostigard but he pushed for the loan. He was in our first team plans but couldn’t be guaranteed a number of games so pushed for a move instead. With the injuries that happened I think he would have started Saturday.

However with Ostigard and Clarke going out on loan there is that potential for Roberts to step into a role if he is happy with under 23 football, cup games and the odd league appearance.

I've kind of assumed he's dropped down the club's pecking order as there never seems to be any mention of him other than his name being added to lists of defenders.

His overall development is more important than us having cover for the first team if we might require it and having him as 6th choice at best. Dunk, Webster, Duffy, Veltman, Burn will all be ahead of him so a loan to the championship would be a better option for him

Doubters may just have noticed that Cardiff put out a team packed with very tall players, with reinforcements coming off the bench. Strangely our rookie callow centre backs conceded 0 (Zero). Some kudos too to Steele who is showing what a model professional he is.

There is no rush, but as I have said before a ball playing left sided centre back of genuine quality is going to be a huge asset to the club. I think Roberts is good enough to make the breakthrough this season. Tsoungui is also progressing well.

Like one or two other players. He is in limbo between the U23s (which he has surely grown out of at just 19) and the first team. I notice that he does not appear in either squad on the club website:

I think he found it difficult at Rochdale and had a problem coping with big CFs
