I didn't think the ref did much wrong on Saturday, I couldn't see anything wronf with any of the major decisions, no matter what most of the home support thought

Their first goal looked offside. The keeper was miles of his line when saving Forsters pen, booking Elphick for nothing. OK 2 where the lino but still officials. Not gonna change the result now but things could've been very different

The bigger issue is that a clear offside was not given SECONDS ago. For that reason alone, it should've been no penalty and no red card.

When you watch the replay there is BHA player over towards the North Stand corner flag playing them all onside.

Their first was onside from where I was and looks fine on the replays, Lynch went up with his arm at the keeper, no attempt to try and head the ball. Their keeper for the penalty i'll give you but that happens with every penalty now and is up to the lino

Presumably then everyone here is confident that the penalty awarded by this clearly incompetent referee was not a penalty.:wrong:

The referee caught a whiff of donkey breath and brought out the red card.

This "last man" myth is complete crap, nowhere in the rules does it mention anything about the last man. It's just something perpetuated by tedious television pundits like Andy Gray and Alan Hansen.

The rules refer to "denying a clear goalscoring opportunity", therefore it's quite possible for someone to commit an offence even if there was a player standing on the line.

A "clear goalscoring opportunity" is a definition open to interpretation, but most of us could presumably judge what what would constitute one, and tugging someone's shirt as he's about to pull the trigger in front of goal is little different to tripping up a striker who's through one on one with the goalkeeper.

I couldn't see what Hawkins did on Saturday, but assuming he pulled the bloke back in that situation, he's got no argument whatsoever.

The rule was brought in in the late 1980s (I think) to stop the sort of last ditch, cynical fouls that defending players used to commit regularly when they'd been beaten in a critical position and the attacking player was suddenly free to shoot.

So spare me the "last man" rubbish.
