Pedant alert: they did bring their away kit but in a stroke of genius by someone at Reading, their home kit was blue and white hoops while their away kit was blue and yellow hoops, both of which were deemed to clash with our shirts. So we agreed to change.

Derby (I think) had a similar situation at Withdean a few seasons back: they were all set to play in our away kit until they decided to rush their training shirts down to the Albion shop to get numbers printed, and played in them.

I remember the Reading game, why werent they made to wear our away kit?
The embarrassment of having to play in pink might have been enough to put them right off their game

I remember that but couldn't understand why we didn't play in our home kit. Did Reading refuse to play in our horrible pink ensemble? In which case, I don't blame them

I think that Reading invoked a rule that because they are 'The Royals' and had some odd royal based entitlement we had to defer to them and change our kit rather than make them wear our away kit.

I think this is in fact correct, they are one of two teams in the league who can do this. Preston North End are the others as a reward for being the first team to win the double.

wasn't too impressed when I saw the teams run out having turned up in a purple Perth Glory cap!

Surely that cannot still exist, it would be ludicrous if it did. Why would Reading ever need an away kit if that was the case (apart from to make more money).

I thought it was just because they got the arse and we folded.

It is a rule that they have always historically chosen to ignore, except here to save face for Majedski they decided to be a bunch of arses.

I recall watching us play at the Walkers Stadium wearing Leicester's away kit.

Not even sure it was that - the shirts had numbers on the back and a modest sponsor logo on the front [no player names]. Probably their 2nd team, 3rd change away kit from 2 years previous.

Very ropey - wonder what they charged us for laundry fees?

If I remember correctly, Reading did change into our away kit and were ready to play in it but due to their chairman wanting their kit sponsors on show (I think it was Friday Ad) as the highlights were due to be shown on Meridian Soccer (or TVS Soccer maybe) he "came to an arrangement" with someone on our board for them to wear their home kit and for us to wear our away kit so both sets of shirts sponsors were on show on local TV.

spot on - I think it was auto trader and I believe some cash changed hands. Reading had warmed up in our pink shorts and then came out in their own away kit and us in the pink.

I`m glad it wasn`t just me who was having trouble picking them out.
Their was one time i was shouting at Murray to lay it off to their left back who i thought was in acres of space.

I complained at the time only to be told by someone close by that Rochdale were in purple.
Whatever the colour, iit was too close and not easy on the eye.

It could also explain why a few Albion passes were directed at the Rochdale players. :lolol:

I do agree with you all, we had 3 games last season too where we wore our 'away' kit and it clashed with the home teams kit, they were actually worse as the home teams were wearing medium to dark blue and you really couldn't tell the difference.

Why have we got a purple away kit? God knows. Must have been a cheap batch from the suppliers. You don't see many fans with them on put it that way.
