I've put Trossard in my Fantasy League team too, along with the bargain that is Locadia (as my 3rd striker on the bench). I've ditched Dunk and Duffy as I think we'll be conceding more goals than last season. (But I'm more confident about our season ahead)

Meant to say done exactly the same ... kiss of death!

I will not judge any player in friendlies and would need to see them on about 5 occasions playing at their level.
As for the team/new manager performances I would need to see about 12 games to fully judge especially this year as we have had such a dramatic change in style after the 4 years of negative mentality drilled in.

Looking forward to a new beginning to 'infinity and beyond'.

Where the **** have you been for 4 years. "At her Majesty's Pleasure" ? Four years ago Brighton were heading for League One. The They are now in their third year in the PL. Your can aim some criticism Chris' way
in certain aspects in style of football in the last year. But four years of negativity. You need a ****in reality check. Brighton wouldn't be in the PL now without him. Go and watch a ****in egg boil coz you need something to compare the last four years with

Same but I’ve kept Dunk

It's his decision making that has impressed me, he seems to have the ability to look up and make a choice that either keeps possession or creates a chance. Great signing

Very much this our decision making in the final third had been abysmal in the premier league this guy looks like he has a proper footballing brain on his shoulders. Looks a real prospect let’s hope he provides something we have been missing since promotion.

Can't wait to see him play against better opposition . . . My impression thus far is he is the best signing we've made since Propper/Gross

I think you may be right. I didn't remember us paying that much for Napier - John Vinnicombe's book only mentions a combined total of £35K for Beamish and Nobby Lawton combined, but wiki gives his price as £25K.
I definitely remember the £25K for Beamish - I recorded it in my scrapbook for the 71-72 season at the time. Alan Duffy went the other way, although whether that was part of the £25K deal, or separate, I've no idea. I do remember going to the Goldstone soon after (actually for [Bthat[/B] Villa match), particularly keen to get a look at our new £25K centre forward (I don't think strikers had been invented then!)

Thank you so much for that information. With the Albion these days and us all knowing about FFP, amortization etc etc etc so refreshing to know others remember the Albion in more 'innocent' ways. For me personally it was the shock of reading we had signed John Napier from Bolton Wanderers from the back page of the Argus and feeling overwhelmed at paying so much, for someone who I had never heard of before...lol. No internet etc etc etc in those days.

I was tempted to do the same but not 100% sure he will start every game. I also think he is unecessarily expensive for a new player at our size of club. That and any Brighton player I pick is usually cursed.

Mate.... four years of negative mentality is simply not the case. We played to our strengths under CH and he saved us from relegation in two Premier League seasons. Before that we had two seasons of attacking football which gained us promotion with a squad which was only about 8th funded in The Championship. Please let it go your dislike for Chris Hughton....stop rewrighting history and embrace the new regime which is a gamble but may create a better entertainment value. Who knows we may improve our League status or we may get relegated but never forget what our previous incumbent does for this club while three other managers failed. It's wearing a bit thin your dislike of the tactics of CH when he may turn out to be our most successful manager ever. Just saying like.

This thread was about Trossard I said what I feel is you can't judge him so early against friendlies.

I mentioned I also would not judge Potter fully until about 12 games, which is exactly the way I judged Hughton, If as a fan of 45 years I don't like his mentality and defend as soon as possible that is my prerogative and I voted with my feet.

I am consistent if nothing else.

Potter has a clean slate, I like what I hear and he has my full support, as I was saying he has to shift the mentality of the players as much as the style in a very short time which is monumental.

That is why I even mentioned it, so I think you're both being over sensitive, NooBHA I understand why as main Hughton promoter, but my Best man Gullsworth and ex-lodger, what have I done apart from having an opinion that you disagree on???

Have I missed something, a friendly against a Premier League side perhaps?

While people are using phrases such as "an upgrade on Knockaert" then let's not forget, against Championship sides, Knockaert looked like an upgrade on the more recent Knockaert.

Let's just keep calm and wait for the proper games shall we.

Absolutely, however he does on what I’ve seen so far, appear to be more of a team player than AK

Harsh but fair. We played some brilliant football in the Championship, and at home in the Premier League. Negativity away from home and in the last 6 months. People shouldn't forget the amount of goals we scored in the two promotion-chasing campaigns

I'm not a big fan of criticising any player just because the fee is high.

The fee is a matter for Tony and his bank manager. If they are happy, then no concern of mine.

So every player from free to multimillion has the bar set at the same level by me.

And so far Trossard has leaped that bar well.

Only issue is I don't see him and Gross fitting in to the same starting XI as, for me, he's ideal in that number 10 role.

I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, we very much missed Gross last season when he was injured, but ensuring we have a player who can produce similar quality in his absence is a huge bonus. Additionally, I think we can see them both. In a 4-2-3-1 formation, Gross in the middle with March/Jahanbaksh on the left and Trossard on the right - this could be really potent. Especially if they cut inside and we overload the opposition's final third with overlapping wing backs. Time will of course tell in the league.

But it's sure as hell exciting.
