[Misc] Have you put the heating on yet? (2022/23 edition)

Still waiting for the final electric bill from Bulb after switching to Octopus to get on their Agile Export tariff.

However Gas has been interesting to see.

Nov 2021 we used 1149 kwh/103m3 and the bill was £55. This year it's 719 kwh/64m3 and its £82.

We have the heating on an hour in the morning and an hour or two early evening to 19.5c, whichever comes first and that sees us through lovely.

Guess the mild start to the month helped and we're not going to struggle money wise paying this, but how the hell are those on shit wages going to cope. The in-laws are up in County Durham, I dread to think what their bills are going to be. I called my Mum up and just said, put the heating on when you need it, I'll pay what you can't afford.

Gas usage still heading down by 33% year-on-year for the last two years, so reasonably happy.
Electricity up a bit, but we do charge our electric car.

November:
Electricity 323.90kWh
Gas 1153.40kWh

PS. Just got an invitation from OVO to join their "Shift and Save" scheme, which should be interesting.

We're lucky in having triple glazing, loft and wall insulation so no need to put it on yet. A jumper on in the evening keeps me warm until bed time. It's certainly not cold here in Shoreham. May have to put it on in the New Year, but we're fine at the moment.

Started putting mine on earlier this week. It's getting a bit nippy, but the main issue was the inside of my windows was covered in water.
I just checked my bills from last winter, and my largest bill was from Jan/Feb
£101 for electricity and gas combined.

Never any excuse for using 'nippy' when 'walnut' is available (Walnut Whip-py = nippy)

Not too cold inside our house and if it does feel nippy I put on my extremely warm Oodie.

We had a wood burner installed last April and that’s turned out to be a cracking decision.
It does a great job heating our bungalow in the evening, so we’re just leaving it as long as we can before turning the heating on in the morning.

We've just run out of sticks . . . New batch arriving Tuesday . . . At just under double the price they were laast year.

We're with OVE . . . Prices may be ok, by com[arisson, but watch them, they do like to dip their fingers into the pot . . . We cancelled our direct debit in July and we're still £3400 in credit. . .they're still guessing our electric meter readings and oer charging us . . . the new smart meter is a bit retarded.

Our electricity use in Nov is 196 kwh, down from 302 last year. Gas was 606 kwh down from 1904 last year. We were away for 10 days in Nov this year and 8 days last year so its a decent comparison. Electric down 35% and gas 68%. That is a for a large 5 bed house built 12 years ago with two of us living there . Cook with electricity, put a dual zone Hive system in during Oct which is brilliant. We've also turned off rads in a couple of rooms we use as guest bedrooms. I reckon a total cost of £151, if we had been here all month nearer £230 so would have just tipped into using the credit in my account if it were not for the govt subsidy.

See the above posts for the number of people who have installed wood burners in the last year or two. Supply and demand is the main reason for rising costs.

I'm lucky in that I do a day a month covering for my wife in a local secondhand bookshop, and the owner 'pays' me in logs!

Our usual load has gone up about 11% over last year.
Pretty fair when one considers transport, wage costs etc.

Today we had to put the heating for first time in anger, our little terraced house is nicely insulated either side but the rear of the house has become quite cold and damp through condensation so after some investigation we purchased desiccant type dehumidifier and in 24 hours of use the humidity has improved from 76% to 50% now with a running wattage of between 80 watts and 600 watts I am hoping that once it settles down this will be a cost effective answer
