I’d be interested to know which of us has to pay to be at their Christmas Party and who gets it paid for by ‘the company’. Being public sector I have to pay in entirety for my food, drink and DJ.

The first age - Company is paying, loads of pissed young women - 'GET IN'
The second age - Doing quite well at this company, make an appearance and try not to blow all future prospects due to one night of over-indulgence
The third age - Find an excuse to miss it completely or just leave early
The fourth age - Have to make an appearance and speech. Loads of pissed people telling you why they should get a pay rise/promotion

I'm at the Third Stage, this years bunfest will be at Jury's Inn by the station the coming saturday, I'm expecting that its pretty cheap and that's why it's been booked. I'm swerving this for the second year running and also not doing the Secret Santa after last years " Gift " which I never received til early January, this consisted of a key ring and a insulated cup holder worth about £1.99 .

We tend to get the £9.99 pp finger buffet and if you have the good fortune to hit the bar at the same time as one of the directors you might get a free beer.

I used to work in the public sector so the idea of a freebie was completely alien.

I think a mate of mine had it right when he said when asked if he was going to the Christmas meal - "Good God no I don't choose to work with these people but I can choose not to socialise with them"

I'll be attending the parties put on by 7 companies, at 6 of which I'll have to make a speech, plus going as the +1 to my partner's, at which, thankfully, I won't. I'm looking for nothing more than making sure I'm not talking about anecdotes about Company A at Company B's party. I'll count it as a win if I don't get blank looks as I go through the speech. Eight parties in 6 weeks, none of which I'd choose to attend unless I kinda had to.
