I saw her and the Duke of Edinburgh when she opened the Marina. I saw the DofE again at a garden party at Buckingham Palace but didn’t speak to him, but Prince Edward came over to speak to my daughter & me.
I have been presented to Princess Anne.

I forgot Harry & Meghan in Peacehaven when they went to the Youth Centre there 3 years ago.

Today, I’ll get a full house from my grandstand view.

Twice.

Once was when I got off a train at Carlisle and noticed a lot of old Bill around - then I saw the royal train and Brenda walking down the platform just ahead of me.

The second time was on Maundy Thursday. We popped into Salisbury cathedral to have a look around and it was the gaff's turn for the Maundy money do - there she was, handing out dosh to the old folk. There seemed to be very lax security around the place

I have.

Many years ago she opened a swimming pool while I was working at the local rag.

What was interesting about this event was that the “Royal Press Release” arrived a few days before. Within the PR it declared that the streets were lined with well wishers of which there were hundreds. People singing god save the queen dressed in Union Jack blazers etc. It outlined exactly who the queen met. They even predicted the weather.

In reality she rocked up with more security than spectators (about 40). She arrived after a team had given those in attendance the rules and regulations which included demanding that elderly people never sit while the queen was present. She cut a ribbon and left without speaking to anyone or even smiling.

This event made me realise how the royal family like to control the media and how some abide by it. It just made me think how odd it all is.

As per my previous post, there would have been a lot of youngish blokes in Suits wandering about the place fully tooled up...

Yes. At a set of traffic lights on the A40. The special branch had pulled up alongside me and asked me to stay put when the lights went green.

I looked across and her motorcade was next to me. I gave her a wave but she didn’t respond :(

Gawd save the queen.

Yes. As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. I used to play in a scout & guide marching band in Haywards Heath, and we somehow got involved in a huge procession through London to the beacon lighting in Windsor Great Park. We teamed up with The Sealed Knot who were performing English civil war battle re-enactments and provided music during the battles.

At the end of the procession when the beacons were lit, the Queen & Prince Phillip did a bit of a walk about and I shook hands with Prince Phillip, and promptly turned round and asked my dad who he was :lolol:

The band were kitted out in costumes of the era as well - the arrow points to a 12 year old me!

I have a vague memory, jogged by my parents over the years when discussing it. Unfortunately they are both dead so I can’t say for sure. My father carried a flag/standard in the British Army welcome on the runway when the Queen arrived in Kaduna Nigeria where we lived.at the time. I believe I was there with my mother.

The photo is at the Durbar which was a highlight of this portion of the trip

This was in 1956 when I was 5

I was there, too. Royal Commonwealth Institute for the Blind, I think it was called. About 1968?

Nearer 1971/1972 I would say.

Edit. It was 1971 just googled Royal Commonwealth Institute for the Blind.
