None of the MX-5s are British made I am afraid, they were all made in Japan. Well one was! During the design process Mazda used it's design studios in Japan and California as well as International Automotive Design http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Automotive_Design in Worthing. They designed the suspension and also made the first working mock up, so could have a claim to have made the first MX-5 in Sussex. By the way I had a Harvard Limited Edition, which I bought brand new in 1997, wish I still had it......

There was a rumour that the Japanese took a Lotus Elan, stripped it to pinch the best ideas and rebuilt it as the MX5. Probably an old wife's tale

Yep '69 beetle .... restored in 1993 and resides in my garage under cover and remains the singular most reliable car I have ever owned ... when the BMW's Volvo's Navara's Shoguns and Vauxhalls and Fords have all broken down the bug starts every time. It has the same battery, even when I laid it up for 6 years it started in a couple of turns. The kids hate it, but I love the thing to bits

I am not going to argue against your knowledge but when I got mine there was a choice between an MX5 and the Eunos.
The Eunos was always called the imported model and carried certain problems regarding registration and especially insurance and although very similar it had quite a few extras than the model I got which was
called the British made model.
Edit. Sorry just had a thought was the MX5 built in Japan for the British market and the Eunos built in Japan for the Japanese market, I think it also went to the USA.
Mine was always called the British model hence the confusion.
Never a good idea to answer your own posts is it.

I never wanted the Eunos so did not look too deeply into it but the bookwork that came with the Eunos was in Japanese but mine was all in English.

I don't do cars, I dislike driving, don't like sitting in them, am crap at parking, and think most car drivers on the raid are all impatient. I have only needed a car once in my life and the only car I like, and can recognise other than a mini, is a Beetle. Therefore the only car I have owned, for a couple of years, was a new Beetle. So, it was kind of my dream car.

Currently a 911 C4 Convertible - Black. Owned 2 x Audi A8L (wonderful machine), second one written off in a 20mph collision with a Ford Mustang. Repair was more than straightening it. The first one I had was under warranty for 6 years and at 5 years and 11 months into it the transmission went. $10,000 repair...$1,500 just for the FLUID!! Along the way I've also played with a BMW 530xi (hated it), Jag XJ6 (yes it was utterly unreliable), Porsche Boxster (fun), BMW Z3 (worst stereo in the world).

My dream car is an Austin Healey 3000 MkIII Phase 2. Cream and BRG two tone. I love cars.

Now that was a hidden gem. About 10 years ago i had small kids and was looking for a practical car. I test drove a few estates and they had one of those in Evans Halshaw, so i tried it. Absolutely lovely car, practical and very reasonably priced compared to the equivalent from Jag, Volvo, Merc etc (i'd given up company cars and was paying for it myself !). I ended up keeping it for 5 years and loved it.

That doesn't help me - i had one out on hire over 10 years ago for about 3 weeks, and roared around in it to Exeter/Brum/Norwich.. loved it, and still look at ebay for nice ones, thinking it would be good for the family.. Might have to go diesel 155bhp version tho

Years ago i had a stonking Stratos Silver Mk1 XR2 which had a XR2i 16v engine in it and RS turbo LSD; enormous fun, but have not yet owned the two cars i really hanker for:

Yes! Good man. Is it stock or have you tinkered with it? I used to have a '73 in baby blue, Dragstar wheels, slammed front end, 8" steering wheel, T-Bars, it was a wicked little Cal-look. Only ran a 1200cc engine but I went all over the place in it, Big Bang, Bug Freeze, Bug Jam etc...she cost me £250 and the only thing that went wrong was the lead broke off of the battery terminal.

I think my post is quite different to Stat Brothers. I merely stated a personal preference and a single observation about other motorists. This is all. You seem to have jumped to a conclusion I'm anti-car. I don't like driving and I tend to avoid things I don't like. This is all. You, on the other hand, seem to be quite twitchy and defensive about cars, why is this?
