I was working in a hotel and found $550 in a envelope underneath a mattress. I handed the money to the housekeeping manager. I was informed that if no one claimed the money within 100 days it was mine to keep.

I checked after 90 days and I was told it was still unclaimed. I checked after 100 days and I was told it was claimed yesterday. I believe that the housekeeping manager took the money. I was honest and it did not pay off

Don't beat yourself up about that too much, $550 was probably worth £32.74 back then

Found a wallet on seafront this summer. Credit cards drivers license, everything and £280 in cash...........
managed to find a business card with a number on it. Called it. Guy didn't even know he had lost as it had only just been dropped. Arranged a meet point a few minutes later. He arrived, took the wallet, checked I hadn't taken any money and then said thanks and walked off. I must admit i felt a little pissed off he didn't offer a reward....
A friend of mine dropped a thousand in cash in an envelope on street in Hove years ago. Somebody piked it up and handed it in to Police. My mate got it and went straight round guys house and gave him a £100!

Once got a haul of working laptops from a skip outside one of those communal offices start ups often use. Looked like the company had gone bust or hadn't paid their rent and the whole office had been cleared and dumped in it.

Spotted an ipod in a bin so took it home. It was broken which is obviously why it was thrown away so I googled to see if they were cheap to repair and it turned out Apple had done a recall on that model as some of the batteries had caused fires. The last day of the recall was that week so I sent it off and got sent a brand new ipod.

Found a purse in a phonebox (showing how long ago this is, when people actually used phoneboxes) with a LOT of money in and made sure it got back to the owner with the money still in it.

When I was about 13/14 ( I am 55 today btw - thank you) I was queuing up in the Virgin record shop in Queens Road to buy some Christmas presents and at my feet was a £20 note. No one looked as if they had lost it , so that was 4 LPs worth in old money.

The Frau once found a hundred quid, in loose notes, under a table in The Great Eastern in the 90s. She split it with the bloke she was on a date with....not me.

If it’s not claimed by the owner within a set period of time (I think it’s 14 days) you are entitled to go back into the bank branch and claim it. The tellers have to keep it separate behind the till in case the owner returns. This happened to me (albeit only £20) when I handed that in, and the teller thanked me by giving me that fact/tip....

A wallet full of euros probably about 300 in Hamburg on the reeperbahn, went to the police station and handed it in.

A few wraps of Speed in the toilets Camden, kept it
A 6ft x3ft glass mirror stood up next to a skip in Tottenham that had a chip out of the side, kept it and took it to a glass cutter and got him to cut me a full length coffin shape, I still have it.
A 1960's small retro bar original, kept it and sold it to a trader in Brick Lane for £40
A wallet with about 10 lottery tickets in it, no money or id on the street, kept the tickets and checked them £10 winner
A bag in pub left, pair of Levis waist 32 vintage look and two t-shirts - kept part after discussing with landlord he had the t-shirts and I had the jeans.
