Air Rifle in the garden then 30 years RAF........never liked firing weapons ( not that im a pacifist) I just hated the idea of cleaning them after.

Paid to have a go on a AK 47 whilst in Vietnam. Scary stuff

When I was in Vietnam I remember that being an option at the end of the Viet Cong Tunnels tour. A few of the guys I was with lapped it up. It was so much louder than I thought it would be.

I have no desire to ever fire a gun myself.

My favourite on set weapon was a WW1 Colt Thompson sub machine gun. Commonly known as a Tommy Gun or The Trench Clearer.

My great uncle who died at Ypres ( see my avatar) was assigned to the machine gun company. What sights he must have seen in his all to short 23 years

Chalk and cheese in my opinion, SLR was of course more reliable and on the range imho more accurate however for close quarters urban warfare (NI) my Bootneck colleagues told me the SA80 was was better, one problem was of course the SA80 could only be fired in those days right handed!!

The SLR haa a greater kick back on it compared to the SA80.
Hence why I always developed a shiner under my right eye after firing the SLR.

Yes, once.
At a fair ground in about 1970 there was a stall with a rifle range sort of thing with real, but small, bullets.
I decided that the best way to shoot straight was to line my eyes up either side of the barrel, with the butt of this thing up against my nose.
Bad mistake.
I think a 10 year old kid has about 5 pints of blood inside them? I reckon I lost at least 4 of those all over the place.

Yes, all the above bar airgun. Was in the Uni Shooting Club and shot .22 rifles, we also went down to Devizes to shoot at the Tunnel Club there (infamous for previously Michael Ryan as a member) where I shot handguns. Also, used Uzi, Pump Action Shotgun, .357 Magnum and Beretta at a range in Vegas. Done a bit of clay pigeon shooting too. Enjoyed it, but not done since, and could take it or leave it now.
