[Misc] Have you ever discharged a firearm?

Yes, went to a gun range while in Warsaw. Fired a handgun, ak47, WW2 Tommy gun, mp4 (or5? The sas one anyway) plus some others. I wanted to see what the fuss was about re our American friends and their absolute obsession with them. I loved it. But it was a toxic love the kind yes I could see could get out of hand. So glad I live in the UK with our strict regs, glad the average copper here has no side arm. Plenty of worries in life but worrying about an armed bulgarly or car jack or being shot by a trigger happy Policeman or being caught up in a Heat style street gun battle isn't one of them.

Had a go at clay pidgeon shooting once at a friend's farm. I was shit at it, but I can certainly see the enjoyment to be had from it as a sport. The sense of satisfaction on seeing the two clays obliterated that I actually managed to hit was akin to the one you get from smashing a golf ball 200+ down the centre of the fairway, even though you'd just holed out on the previous green for 8.

Clay pigeon I found deathly dull as well.

I don’t like shotguns. I don’t like corporate events. I don’t like people who like corporate events.

The event I attended was held on a boat on the Thames. 40 novices using firearms in a small space and with alcohol available. Utter madness.

I have also used a proper shotgun in a more remote and altogether safer location. Massive kick from the gun and a lot of noise. No desire to repeat the experience, once was enough.

Used to wander around the neighborhood in Burgess Hill in the 80's with an air rifle. No one cared to say anything.spent many happy hours over the woods shooting tin cans and dusty old Airfix models I no longer wanted. Never shot a creature though. My mum recently took said air rifle to the police station to get rid of it. On the way there a wag yelled from a van if she was off to do a bank job.

I injured myself firing a 9 mm Browning.
Instead of adoptIng the recommended grip, I went for the much cooler looking wrist holding method.

Somehow managed to get my thumb in the way of the block coming back and badly bruised my thumb and wrist.

I never saw that happen in Starsky and Hutch.

I’ve used the SA80 and 9mm in the British Army. I also got to use the HK53 on a range in Northern Ireland and that was quite an experience.

I’m based the US now and find it crazy that anyone can get license to carry with little or no training.

303 at school, they organised it! Air rifle when a kid, clay pigeon shooting at various works dos, that's me done for the rest of my life unless something unusual crops up!!

2 friends of mine went out shooting rabbits with a shotgun. They were in an open back landrover, gun in the back. On the way off the land, one of them jumped out to open and close the gate, but slipped, bashed his head hard on the gate and split his skin. Other one drove him to A&E and was helping his now covered in blood mate to the door, when he remembered he had the shotgun in the open back of the landrover, where anyone could grab it. He runs back and gets the gun and goes into A&E with one arm round his blood soaked mate and a shotgun in the other. Armed Police arrived shortly after.

Ha, I went to the Varndean rifle range once. I fired 10 shots, all missed the target although one hit the target of the boy next to me (he had 11 holes in his). I was told never to come back

How‘s the SA80 compare to the SLR?

Chalk and cheese in my opinion, SLR was of course more reliable and on the range imho more accurate however for close quarters urban warfare (NI) my Bootneck colleagues told me the SA80 was was better, one problem was of course the SA80 could only be fired in those days right handed!!

School CCF, so fired Cadet GP (manually cocked version of SA80) and air rifle on a range. Have since fired a 12-bore at clays and a scoped air rifle at a metal rabbit...

Did clay pigeon shooting at a work team building day. I quite enjoyed it and was pleased that I managed to get something like 9/10 of them, and beat my colleagues as it was the best score. Most of my colleagues were guys who were all making it competitive
