I was foolish enough to join the Labour Party for about a year in 1982 in Camden. After sitting through about three or four meetings full of byzantine arguments about referring motions on to various other labour party committees and interminable arguments about arts funding; whilst less than half a mile away Camden Tube Station was teeming with homeless beggars I thought "f*** this" and gave up.

I was in the Labour party for about four years. I left when Kinnock got elected and started chucking out the Militants (ie socialists).

I was never a Militant supporter but it seemed crazy to me to throw out the one body of people who actually believed in what the party stood for.
