These are some documentaries by a film crew who did secret filming there. Interesting watch.
Nothing to Envy: Real Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick should put you straight.
The country is extremely poor and decades of US sanctions have only made it poorer. Compared to nations with similar wealth, the levels of hunger are not as bad as we are lead to believe, and its achievements in education, technology and culture are admirable. All things considered, it's doing rather well considering how poor it is. I would imagine if it wasn't the major trade route between the South and China it would be treated with more respect.
The prisons in all poor nations are horrific, why single out North Korea for this?
did you miss the part about how the chap was a prisoner because of a grandparents crime? born and kept in prison for two generations. seriously leave it out, even the Chinese think NKorea is ott.

Propoganda. Truth is, we will never really know what life is like in this country until it opens its doors. It could be a wonderful place to live, but right now we are relying on accounts from people who may have been there in the past and of course what the governments of the world are telling us.
Overlooking their huge displays of military in a country that is very poor in the population.
Now nuclear and long range missiles for their poor to feel comforted.
Think about it.

I mean,
nobody knows what goes on in there. Dennis Rodman just came out and said that the leader is a cool dude to hang with. So, do we have NK all wrong? Are the governments of the world spreading lies simply because they did not agree to peace with us?
No they don't. They are generally supportive of North Korea, and if you decide to flee the country to China you will be sent back. China are the only people who realise that the North Koreans aren't all that bad. Which they aren't. The only evidence that we have that atrocities are committed there is due to what we are told by our governments, who obviously don't want them to work with nuclear technology as they are scared. People so called 'leaving' and spreading stuff about Korea could be stooges, we don't know. All adds to the propaganda element.

meanwhile all those free to leave are full of praise for the country. really, get a grip on reality please.
And how do we know those that have left are actually from North Korea? Remember, the governments of the world are against North Korea, they could simply get a 'stooge' in. Won't take much. Just grab someone from South Korea.
By the way anything Mustafa Kemal posts is absolute nonsense on this subject, we covered this in another post recently and he displayed a clear lack of knowledge and made genuinely ignorant and offensive statements regarding this issue. As illustrated by the above suggestion that North Korean camps do not differ from those in other nations. A clear lack of understanding does not suffice to highlight his ineptitudes.

It's important to respect that it is a developing nation.
North Korea just wants to be self-sufficient, and left alone - with its Korean values unaffected. It's all in their Juche ideology which I would recommend anyone to read more about for a better insight into their political mindset.
