Have MK Dons been proved right?

Just far enough away from LDC
I stand corrected. the AFC bloke at work reconed there was no support from Merton to come back to Plough lane.

At the Wimbledon Fans Utd day, I sat on the press conference panel (representing Albion fans) alongside Dave Boyle (The Supporters Trust Exec and Northampton Town boardmember now), two Wimbledon fans from WISA, Dickie Guy and the lead councillor for planning at Merton.

The last guy was very interesting. I had a distrust of lead councillors for planning but this guy knew his stuff and had documentary evidence to prove that they had tried to get wimbledon back to merton and had negotiated with neighbouring councils (Kingston, croydon etc) to see if there was other closer sites. Hamman turned them down and then had the gall to try and insist on a confidentiality clause to try and stop it ever becoming public!

Do the MK Dons still lay claim to the Wimbledon heritage i.e. claiming they won the Cup in 1988?

When the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens even though they were exactly the same team the NFL made them 'leave behind' the Browns history. They were treated as the new team and the REAL new team (the new Cleveland franchise) were allowed to claim they were the true Browns.

No there was an agreement that MKD would not take up the Wimbledon history, ie FA Cup winners.

i am not sure when this comes in...I will ask my AFC man

If AFC Wimbledon break in to the league then I think it will be a fair outcome. It's just a shame MK couldn't have come up from non-league rather than stealing a club from London.

Yup, that's pretty much how I see it.

I believe the mementoes from the Cup Final win have been handed back to AFC Wimbledon now, and Franchise have officially severed the 'ties' with 'their' 'past' (I use the quote marks deliberately).

This question arose at the Supporters AGM
The minutes read -

Wimbledon: MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon have finally seen the trophies and
memorabilia of the original Wimbledon FC returned to the London Borough of Merton for posterity. Wimbledon Independent Supporters’ Association has called off its boycott of MK Dons and also its objection to the latter’s supporters’ club being admitted to membership of the Football Supporters’ Federation.

I congratulate and envy Wimbledon, whilst we have stood still for so long, their board have ploughed on,by the time Falmer is completed they could well be two Divisions higher than us. DK might like to contact them to pick up a few tips.

It is getting boring now.

Wimbledon are gone, they are never coming back. AFC will be a league team in a few years time.

I think people should just move on now tbh. They have gone their seperate ways.

Good uck to MK Dons. I reckon other clubs in thier position would have done the same. Good luck to AFC as well. Hopefully they will be a league club in a few years time.

If MK Dons are NOT the Wimbledon of old then why are they called The Dons?

You don't seem to be a huge fan of Dick Knight. How exactly could we have sped up the process of Falmer? Or do you think that there was an alternative site that would have been speedier.

I'm slightly bored of all the arguments now, both clubs should just get on with it, much as I'll always feel MK are slightly plastic.

The only thing that pisses me off slightly now is the Dons thing, why can't they just be MKFC, or MK Gladiators, or whatever cheesy moniker Winkelman wants to give them. They are nothing to do with the old Dons, so it's about time they dropped the pretence (set up to make the way they parachuted a brand new club straight into the third division of the football pyramid more palatable) and just got on with being Milton Keynes.

They would have more respect if they were honest about that.

I have no axe to grind but would be qute happy if AFC do not get into the league rather than be another Div 2 side struggling for support and money. The catchment area for them means that they are now approaching their full potential for support.

As regars moving Sam Hamman tried to take them to Guildford but met too much oposition or rather not sufficient financial support from the Council.
