okay, i've found an argus article that suggests that pride has moved. does tham mean we're definitely having a home game as first game of the season?

The last I heard there was going to be a Pride board meeting with a whole raft of alternative dates they were going to consider. But, as I understand it, they are now currently undergoing a thorough review of their entire set up, objectives and operations as they had a number of failings last time round.

The first league game of the season will be at home.

It hasn't been announced yet. I doubt it will be until the fixtures actually come out. It's down to the football league whether we will open the league home or away. As far as i'm aware though we've asked the football league to be home on the first day and pride don't seem to be making a big deal over it.

how do you know?

An educated guess given their previous willingness and their current predicament i.e. I do not think they're in a position to currently specify a date even if they wanted to.

The club can only, and almost certainly will, request a home game fixture to kick off next season.

They will only know if it has been granted when the fixtures are released (around mid June, iirc).

The Football League, generally speaking, will be accommodating of such requests wherever possible, most teams who've opened new stadiums have requested home games (or away games where they haven't quite finished the work :lolol:) and got them. It's not in the interests of the FL to say no.

The club and the police have already spoken to the organisers of Pride which is likely to be scaled down next year anyway due to costs, and they've been quite willing to co-operate as far as I was aware.

It's not a question of any one party "beating" the other is it, it's not a competition.

I spoke to Darren Balkham about this a few weeks ago and he said Pride were quite willing to change the date.

If....and it's a big if, pride goes ahead next year, it will not, and never will be in the same format as before. All the emergency services along with the transport bods have said they will not endorse it next year due to the vast crowds of this year.

There are several alternatives including having a parade only, moving the whole event to madera drive or have the preston park event as ticket only.

This will go the same way as party in the park (imho) and become a victim of its own success.

Pride are currently discussing four dates for 2011, one date they have not included as they are not considering is 6th August.....

As with many of the previous years I sit down with BHA around April time to fill in the football league questionnaire (dates to avoid, etc) in the past we (Sussex Police) have always asked for an away game first game of the season, sometimes because of the Pride clash an sometimes because of the South Stand not arriving back in time from the Open!

Rest assured Pride are very aware of what BHA have done in the past and they also recognise, as do we, the significance of August 6th 2011 and we will do our bit..
