Great selection Mr Popkins, but how could you leave out 'Number 73'?

Saturday mornings with that and Metal Mickey were the business.

Just read the entry for Brookside (for some reason) from my TV guide:

Ruth attempts to unite the family, and Steve and Kirsty grow ever closer. Meanwhile, Stuart has a hard time using the toilet where his Dad's ashes were flushed away.

Obviously didn't like his Dad then. I almost tuned in to watch Stuart's struggle with mind over matter out of fascination - but quickly came to my senses

Royal Ascot is good

The comedies are all crap, canned laughter over worthless lines that are not even half-witty .

Boys and girls, we have come full circle, and it is time for replaying Catweazle, Some Mothers, Misleading Cases, Likely Lads, Rising damp, Python, Pete and Dud, The Goons, Old grey Whistle Test, Two Ronnies, Porridge, Adam Faith as Budgie, Oliver Tobias in King Arthur, Avengers, Prisoner, Ready Steady Go, Rainbow, Fatwar Lowteys, On the Buses, Young Ones, Dad's Army, Steptoe and Son, Alf Garnett.

Of recent shows I can only opine that Fools and Horses, Men behaving Badly, and Couplings were worthy.

I used to enjoy (in no particular order):

Prisoner Cell Block H
The Time Tunnel
The Tomorrow People
The Tripods
Bill and Ben & Tales from the Riverbank (the original not the shitty American remake
Dr Who (especially Daleks and Cybermen)

There is a lot of rubbish on these days but you can usually find something to watch if you want to - Time Team, Robot Wars etc.

Do you know what I did last night at 10pm?
I went for a walk. It was f*ckin' ace. It had cooled right down, people were out'n'about, I had a converstaion with someone I'd never met before, got home and to round things off nicely...
....the Albion were on telly! And we won!
Most evenings though I'll visit my fave websites rather than watch crappy telly.:)

Hate telly at the mo, cannot watch pop idol fame academy et al, so I bought a load of dvds and plowing through those instead. And get this for a new concept, exercise three times a week keeps me out of the house.

Some interesting replies, and a couple of things I might check out to see if they buck the trend.

I think one or two may have missed the point I was making, though, which wasn't 'Should you watch TV or go and do something else?' We could debate that too, obviously. The point is that I like decent quality TV, always have, never been one of the 'it's all a waste of time' brigade. And if someone like me is turning it off and doing other stuff, the advertisers have got problems - hence the 'has it hit rock bottom' question.

Its amazing how I could totally agree with 99.9% of all comments above. Its not that im getting old, but generally speaking TV is mainly bollocks these days with BBC trying to compete with ITV ( which was never great) to win over the same bunch of half-wits that think Pop-Idol is in some way of any significance to our world at all.

For the records I am not some Victor Meldrew charachter - ive just returned from a week in Ibiza an look like

I think it's as bad as it ever was.

Until they start showing uncensored deformed midgets making love to retarded children, I think we can rest easy and safe in the fact that it's as bad as it always has been.

Bloody repeats!
