Has The Phone-In Had Its Day?

:bla:
My take on the phone in is this:

1. Its Harty's show. Lets not forget that. harty has on the show who he wants on there, ie Mike Ward, Budgie myself etc and so it shoud be. He has a contract with teh BBC, his "guests" do not!

2. The show is only as good as the callers and the callers are either brilliant, crack pot, wind up merchants or self publicicts.

3. People say that there should be no agenda.....sorry but there should be an agenda. The agenda should be:

a) The match just seen
b) Issues that have happened in the week
c) Some sort of historical question ( favourite Peter ever at the albion etc)

4. Whilst the show is "local", next year we could have three Sussex clubs in the conference, in this case I think the phone in should reflect that - then listen to the whingefest on here.

5. Harty is a cheecky chappie...we all know it, he likes to flirt with his audience and if you don't like that, then the show is not for you. Yes we all know he has overstepped the line at times, and has made apologies on air and in the press. He and I had a spat, covered many times on here and as far as I am concerned I made my feelings know and that is over and done with.

6. I have no problem with Simon Levo at all, he is a good mate. Simon does his show very differently to Harty, I have sat next to both of them and Harty is very "off the cuff"...again, that is what makes the show good IMHO.

As I keep saying, if you want to get your point of view accross about the game, PHONE IN! that is what it is there for.

All I would say, is when you go to away games, tune into the local radio station and listen to what is being broadcast.....you will realise just how lucky we are.

Finally, the only change I would make to the current format is this:

From final whistle to 5:15 I would have Hawsey and Levo doing the round up of results.
I would start the phone in at 5:15 for and hour
That would mean people who cant listen would at least be able to hear some of it.

The problem is Dave Cash is syndicated at 6:15/6:30 odd so there is an issue with scheduling.

Do I think people have it in for Harty on here and in other quarters...Yes!

I'm just amazed by the statement made on here 3 times now in the last 24 hours, that people have an agenda against Ian Hart.

Is paranoia starting to take hold. I suspect there is a huge difference between someone not liking someone and that then becoming an agenda. The latter indicates a cold calculating attempt to do bite back at the person they have an agenda against.

Its the people like Yorkie and her 7 dwarf hubby that have no sense of humour and have a go at Harty

again big difference from defending themselves against a personal comment (now all closed off I know) and having 'an agenda'. I think everyone needs to calm down a bit.

i think harty does a god job but it's not his fault that the callers aren't that good maybe if people on here who have plenty to say phoned in then the show would be more enjoyable. also i agree it would be much better if show could be put back a bit by time i get home shows nearly finished.

It's one of those strange things that separate a famous person from mere mortals. If you say something against a normal joe, you dislike them. If they are famous it is an agenda.

I've never understood how famous you have to be to be not just merely killed, but assasinated? I reckon it must be a few rungs higher than the agenda question though.

The fact is that without it you would be moaning about not having a phone in - so what it's FOR? It makes good listening after the game and you would miss it if it wasn't there.

Long live the phone in and if you don't like it, don't listen you jumped up little prick and f*** off to the Evening Star and wank over real ale.

Just my opinion LIKE :thumb:

Football phone-ins are generally dire because they attract tv football fans who talk bollox. The SCR Albion one is quite good and well presented but some of the callers sound as if they've just been given a full frontal lobotomy. Trouble is I usually only hear it when I've not been to a game.

not sure who this is aimed at - I like real ale but dont like the evning star. It's a right little clique full of subterranean low life who probably point at planes as they pass overhead.

Pointed at the original poster - not aimed at real ale drinkers - just know from reading the posts on here that pubs like the Evening Star are his bag.

Fed up with people knocking people's effort in putting things on like the phone in, jealousy all round I think.

I like the passion.
Problem with the Evening Star is that the service is slow. Don't quite know what that has to do with this discussion.

I end up losing the transmission around Leatherhead towards the end of the show; up until there, you can stick your 606 and Terry Christian drivel up yer arse. Sideways!

i think the most depressing thing about southern counties is the commentary on the match sometimes - yesterday that norman gall bloke is almost happy when we are losing - it is bad enough when we lose but to listen to him droning on is depressing -

That 'Norman Gall bloke' is what can truly be described as a Brighton Legend of the past and whilst he may not be the best summariser about deserves the utmost respect from all BHA fans.

The most depressing part of the phone in, for my money, is the endless series of utterly trivial and banal texts that the 'domestic goddess' has to read out.

If we win it's "Well done lads, another three points. And that's from Ricky". Otherwise it's "And from Phil in Hove: We need some strikers, Knight must go ".

I mean, what's the point? I have never yet heard one genuinely interesting or worthwhile text read out. Ever.
