and I'm confident we will.

I think our big problem with missed big chances has been not getting the shot away quick enough.
We allow defenders and keepers to set themselves, too much.
We are improving at his though.

Last night:
Trossard's miss was a half decent save, but hit first time.
Maupay's big miss was hit first time.
Maupay's other miss was a very decent save.

If Ali mac continues to play sublime flicks into Maupay's path he will be scoring a hatful soon.

Onwards!

Ah I forgot Maupay one. I am however not convinced it would have stood. The ball from the quick free kick was prob still moving and VaR may have stepped in...

Trossard should have squared to Mac for a tap in and the second one he had blocked, played Gross in to his right - he frustrates.

I’m not criticising you personally but NSC has a real blind-spot for criticising Dunk who had, in my opinion, the best chance last night.

Tross & Maupay have been getting so much grief everywhere on this site but very few are picking out Dunk for his stupendous miss. His headers from set-pieces either go straight to keeper or a few feet over the cross bar. He needs to be more clinical.

Feels it, other teams getting tonked by the likes of Citeh, we let in one. Fine lines, a few more goals and we'd be like Soton...

Too early to say for sure, but the signs are good based on goals conceded. Especially considering two of our recent games were against Leeds & City, two of the highest scorers in the league.

Sanchez and a return to form for Dunk are perhaps the two most important features of this turnaround.

Yes I agree and I believe the dunk and Sanchez issue are linked.
I think having Sanchez in goal has given dunk the confidence to concentrate on his own game more.

Tbh I think Dunk is excused any criticism precisely because he has score da few this season. Centre back goals are always a bonus rather than a given.
Personally I think Webster is a more deserving target for any complaints in this area. At least Dunk is starting to get the headers going downwards.

Think you’re being a little generous re last night. Agree re the last Maupay chance, but the others were poor finishing.
Trossard had so much to aim at and an option to pass. Re Maupay and the first time shot, he has to hit the target.

No way was Dunk’s header easier then Trossard, who had time and options.

I do agree in some respects though that Dunk (twice) and Webster should have done a lot better.

Ooooh let’s see after the next two games

Not fixed maybe, but improved. I think a lot of that is down to the change in GK. It may just be perception, but it doesn't feel as if almost every shot on target is going to be a goal any more.

I messaged a mate last night during the game and said I feel the defenders are playing with more confidence since having Sanchez between the sticks. Webster has been improving week on week, Dunk has gone from a bit iffy to full on Captain Fantastic, and Ben White? Well I am absolutely bowled over by this kid, his speed, his reading of the game and his attacking intent. Veltman probably contributes to the defence’s new found resilience being far more defensive minded than Lamptey. Last but not least, Solly March, this guy has found his position and he really has grown into it.

Webster hit the bar two games on the trot, it’s all such fine margins.

I'm not saying it was good.
But it was a step in the right direction.

I've mentioned several times on these pages that my frustration with our play is overplaying until you have the perfect opportunity.
Maupay in particular is guilty of this.
I'd much rather they were getting a shot away, than giving the keeper/defenders any extra time.

Starting to see a lot more of that type of attitude from the players.
Goals will come from it eventually.

I think there has been an improvement in recent games, and certainly gives us grounds for cautious optimism. I will have to hold my hands up and say that I was a big Ryan fan who I thought had not done much wrong but the switch to Sanchez does seem to have added some solidity to our defence. Potter deserves credit for what was a big call to make. In addition, Veltman has been a studying influence also, and the Webster Dunk axis has looked very solid too.

In 2 games less, Sanchez has made more saves, kept more clean sheets and conceded 9 goals less than Ryan.

It was a risk decision but it’s paid off massively.

I've noticed that since the Wolves game (Steels's gaff aside), opposition teams need to produce top class play to score against us. We looked so solid last night with Fulham only having a couple of big chances.

Whilst the introduction of Sanchez is key, I think Veltman is looking very solid and Webster has been fantastic.

Is it just our finishing to work on now?

Burnley and WBA will answer the defensive question, particularly around set pieces.

This is why football is at the end of the day, so engaging/infuriating/exciting.

It's massively over-determined. There are two -- three if you count draws -- possible effects, and a thousand possible causes.

So since the Wolves game we have played:

Newport County - Conceded
Man City - Conceded
Leeds - Clean sheet
Blackpool - Conceded
Fulham - Clean sheet

So no he hasn't

We won 3 of those games, drew another and only conceded 1 goal in any of them.

We lost 1-0 to Man City, but so far this PL season only Man U and Spurs have kept clean sheets against them.

Did Graham Potter shag your wife or something? You're just relentlessly miserable about him.

Three goals conceded in five matches, and you say oh no he hasn't - that's plain bonkers.
