I wouldn't say the England side is a joke, it's more a case of a combination of factors leading to apathy.

I listened with interest to an interview on Radio 5 Live last night with a chap from the English RFU talking about how links between the English Rugby Premiership and the body running the English national side had never been so good, and how they've established a Heads Of Agreement on how they'll both work together for the good of the England team. He was saying how both parties agree a successful England side is of mutual interest, and how they are both committed to bringing that about.

When have you EVER heard anything said like that with English football since the advent of the Prem?

It is good, but, I believe that there is a financial pay back to the clubs by the England RFU. The Premiership clubs earn so much that having players on England duty is more a liability in case they get injured.

But a lot of people have no direct relationship to the national team apart from the fact they were born in the country. I have never been to an England game before, I do not like their style of play or any of their players. Why should I support them!? There are lots of people who were born in Brighton who don't support Brighton or anyone else for that matter. Just because you were born in England does not mean you have to like and support the national team does it?

It's not so much the term plastic, more the context you used it in this thread. Why is someone who cannot be arsed to watch England plastic? Oh, and I think I'll give Hitler a miss and stick to watching the world champions tonight.

I hate this apathy towards the England team, if everyone was so apathetic about Brighton we wouldn't have a team to support anymore. Just as some pathetic people have decided to support Germany or Spain we would all be supporting Chelsea or Man City. I'll be watching tonight because I'm English and support the England national team.

Personally I will be looking forward to watching Sterling, Henderson, Sturridge and Wilshere some of the brightest young players anywhere.

Sorry if that's not a fashionable point of view for all you trendy types that seem to take joy in our national team loosing.l

If it wasn't for TB and PB's talk I'd be watching tonight. We're miles away from challenging for any tournaments currently, but we have a great crop of up and coming youngsters who should develop into a good side in the years to come. As we say so often with the Albion, keep the faith. I'd take winning the world cup over promotion any day.

I didn't actually call you that though. Others only like to follow England in the World Cup or euros - not bother with qualifiers or friendlies - that's what I meant by plastic - a term someone else brought to the thread.

After their nine wicket defeat yesterday, I had completely forgotten that England were playing tonight. 20/20 I assume ?

Surprised to see them playing Norway, still the second tier cricketing nations need a chance.

As for the football team, I always watch them. When's the next game..... ?

I'll be watching. A half full Wembley will probably still be in the top 5 best supported friendlies tonight.

I must admit though that since Brighton have a chance of doing well my interest in England is not nearly so strong. When we were struggling in lower divisions it seemed like England were the only 1 of my 2 teams that had a chance of (some) glory. Now I feel Brighton is more likely!
