This reminds me of the Harry Enfield sketch when a woman goes into an artisanal bakery and looking at the board she suggests "£5 for a chocolate tart" is a mistake. The shop keeper goes to change the menu....you think to change the price but simply adds 'e' to tart. The woman then joyfully proclaims in a middle-class accent "£5 for a chocolate tarte, I'll take two."
That's brilliant! Perfect surmise of food snobbery. Up until the late 80s I used to eat Flan; then it became quiche...
