Very simple. Because he is very poor in one to one situations out wide he does not suit playing left of 3 CBs. Looks like now we have a good LB we have reverted to 4 at back. Since Dunk injured at last Burn has had chance to play in his proper position.
Will be interesting to see what Potter does when Dunk is fit. Retain Burn and go back to 3 CBs or continue with 2 FBs and leave Burn out. Tough on Burn but feel it will be latter. Of course also option of leaving Dunk out.

Pretty much how I see it. He is poor one on one simply because he lacks pace, which is hardly his fault. Other attributes are outstanding though - his positional sense is constantly improving and he is decent in the air and a good tackler. His passing has also improved massively.

I think he is a player who will look back at the end of his career and appreciate just how good he became under Potter's stewardship.

It is quite a strange thing to say as (a) Burn just scored from a corner, (b) that isnt the reason you pick a defender, and (c) this won't be the reason that club captain, club legend and best ever Brighton player Lewis Dunk gets his place back when fit again.

I think the whole "he was bad last year but has improved a lot this one" is horseshit. He was good (aside for a few games, which is something he has in common with everybody) last season and the season before that, he is just percieved in a different way now because the last few results has been good.

I have been guilty of judging BDB by what he can't do (for example keep up with the boy Traore at Wolves, which puts him in a pretty large group, if I'm honest), but I've come over to thinking that he should be judged by what he can do. Which includes:

1. Giving 100 percent every time he plays.
2. Slotting into any role he's asked to uncomplainingly, even if it doesn't make him look particularly good.
3. Getting us up the field by being that target for nod-ons out on the left wing.
4. Causing trouble in the other team's box at set plays because they don't realise that he's not very good at winning attacking headers.
5. Quite obviously being a popular member of the squad, judging by his teammates' reactions when he scored.

After his epic harnessing of two of the Premier League's best strikers in his past two appearances, the big man deserves all the praise he gets. For a ridiculously low price, we got an extremely valuable squad member and surely one of the best back-up defenders anywhere.

He's clearly a very popular member of the squad. Both times he's scored for us the rest of the players look genuinely delighted for him. I'm fairly certain there was some piss taking from Adam Webster during the goal celebration yesterday, probably along the lines of "have you just scored with your head Dan?". BDB seemed to take it in good jest though as he nodded his head with a big smile on his face.

His role in Ali Mac's second yesterday hasn't been called out enough either - fantastic anticipation to win the ball from the Everton clearance, then the drive forward. Genuinely wouldn't drop him for Dunk at the moment, he deserves to stay at CB.
