Joined Bluesky earlier this week, the influx has definitely reached a tipping point for the accounts I follow, have to say it’s impressed me so far

Not deleting Twitter just yet because I find it hard not to watch a car crash, but it’s definitely gone on the back burner and I wouldn’t miss it if it disappeared tomorrow

Nothing wrong with that. The problem (for me) that developed on Twitter was the focus on monetisation since 2022. This meant that people paying for their blue ticks got elevated to the top of the comments of any tweet, and most of them were either trolling for engagement or using automated AI response to spam as many popular accounts as possible. The result being that you'd have to scroll though a load of abuse and/or nonsensical AI bollocks to read any sort of thoughful response.
it got even worse after Musk tweaked the algorithm on 13th July to support Trump's campaign.

Never been a platform for me. I disliked it from day one with the "140 character limit" and felt it would dumb down societal debate in favor of undercooked headline-writing, simplifying argumentation and therefore creating a greater distance between various poles in society (also known as polarisation).

I've had 0 reason to change these views, even after the severly anti-intellectual character limit was removed.
Twitter is the fastest news channel and there are of course plenty of good people and twitterers among the millions and millions of users. But all in all the platform is a big fat minus for society as a whole and that was the case long before anyone had even heard of Musk-boy.

It is fast food communication. Feel free to enjoy it but don't expect the world to survive it in the long run.

My Twitter account is gone now. I was not sure about Blue Sky, but I've started an account anyway.

Almost identical in actions and sentiments.

Bluesky is a breath of fresh air, like peak Twitter 10 years ago, civil, friendly, no rage algorithms boosting bots, Elon Musk or MAGA BS, proper moderation, and love that you can pin your own threads/algorithms rather than have the one size fits all X one or your followers only.

Also reading loads of people are getting far more engagement from far less followers than they have on X. This will supercede X in time imho.

The Guardian has binned off X entirely and moved to bluesky, number 1 free app on IOS and Google Plays stores.

Starter packs also a great idea to get followers in interest categories you like, love that its open source and decentralised so its not going to be bought/manipulated, and last few days, I've started going first to Bluesky and staying longer on it than Musks cesspit, I love it

One of the things Bluesky have got to sort out is verification of 'high profile' accounts - journos, celebs, politicians etc. There's already been some fake accounts set up. I understand there's a process for journos (for example) to change the domain of the username from b.sky.social - but not sure everyone can do it. The verified blue tick on twitter (pre 'X') - before anyone could pay for a tick - seemed to work well.

EDIT: a couple of examples re journos. Lewis Goodall is @lewisgoodall.com - whereas Sonia Sodha has the Bluesky domain. And because someone of the same name (or a fake name) got there first, she's had to go with @sonia-sodha.bsky.social

Bluesky needs to ensure its users can have confidence in the accounts they want to follow.

I think opposite, threads is social network not so much news/interests. The feeds section on Bluesky means you can choose literally any topic of interest and pin its feed on your homepage.

Its such a cool idea that Zuckerberg has said he's going to copy it and try and do similar at Threads
