I reluctantly use Twitter, but like many others I plan to bin it very soon.

I've read of both Blue Sky and Threads being possible replacements and that both are growing quickly.
Has anyone got any advice on which is the better one to join?

(I use it to follow updates for football and cricket, general news, sharing links to Flickr)
Blue Sky is better. Threads comes under Facebook, and its layout isn’t user friendly.

Probably doing it imminently, there’s been a real avalanche in the last week or so of accounts I follow moving over

BlueSky definitely seems to be gaining some traction, and many of the non-football journalists I follow on X are now posting on there.

X has become a cesspit, but the worst thing for me is the number blue-tick accounts that infest the site now that anyone with £12 a month can buy one. Everytime the official club account posts something, you have to trawl through dozens of blue-tick wankers posting barely relevant - I suspect, AI-generated - responses before getting to see comment from actual fans.

On the subject of getting the official club site and more BHA journos on there, it’s a bit chicken and egg. I imagine that the more of us that sign up and start or interact with (eg like or comment) unofficial BHA related content, the more likely the official accounts and journalists will follow.

I stopped posting from the NSC account some months back.

I still access the platform from time to time as it is still a good place to pick up titbits of news, and if you search in a focused way you can largely avoid all the (generally right-wing) shit.

Facebook is full of AI posts some altering history and pushing dubious narratives.

Come on BHAFC, don't be a dinosaur - parallel post to BlueSky.
Having just ditched X and hence the club's official X account, they will need to find other ways to reach me.

Hopefully the club X engagement will drop so much due to this recent X Trust Thermocline breach they will decide to explore the BlueSky option.

Sometimes the Blue Tick responses are copy and pastes from my own actual tweets, which is even more bizarre.

Came off Twitter during the latter part of the pandemic as I was just getting overly stressed and angry with all the politics going on, and the arguments it was causing. Havent missed it one bit.

I have FB but only post photos every now and again about how the kids are doing, for family and friends around the world. Barely look at it these days.

Mainly use Instagram these days as its easy on the eye for photography, without having to engage too much with anyone. "Like" a photo, & move on....simple. I post sometimes, but mainly just give it a quick scan in the morning and evening, and put funny bits on my stories to (hopefully) make people smile. Theres not enough of that these days....

So much happier since ditching a lot of social media. Apart from the official NFL & MLB websites for news / fantasy sports, NSC is basically the only other site I use during the day.

A question to the hive mind of nsc

Since the ability to pay for blue ticks, promotion of those people and the use of ai/bots amplifying certain themes, I have posted on it less and less. I'm kind of thinking now is the time to drop off it altogether but am interested in whether others have and if so what alternatives people used.

It may be a FOMO but when it started the idea of being able to 'text' large groups of people seemed a good thing. It doesn't feel that way now
Been off Twitter/X and Instagram for months. Don’t miss either. Thinking of nuking my FB soon too. If you’re thinking about it then maybe it’s time to take the jump? Ive found it to be refreshing experience, and it’s made me realise who and what is important in my life. Make sure everyone you care about has your number. I now get all my club updates on WhatsApp and YouTube. Go for it!

I came off it a few weeks back and it's given me hours back a week I reckon. I feel a lot less connected to Brighton news though, especially on game day. The live updates were so much more convenient on X/Twitter, but now I really don't miss it. Seeing Musk going slowly insane reminded me that I just didn't want someone like him having that connection into my world.

It took a while though because I wanted to delete all of my tweets, reposts and likes beforehand but the actual act of quitting it was quite freeing.
The club updates on WhatsApp are brilliant and pretty much the same as what you’d get on Twitter.

Been using Mastodon for some time (and quite like it personally), but it's not really had the traction - it's more of a niche social still. Just registered for Bluesky, assuming I can find equivalent content to what I've retained my X account for on there I think it's a matter of days before my X account is nuked and I'll use Mastodon+Bluesky instead of Mastodon+X

I have to say, I have never, ever, opened social media with the intention of arguing with someone. I go on looking for things of interest. Unfortunately much of social media is inhabited by people who DO want to argue and often post ridiculous things just to stir the hornets nest.

We DO have such people here on NSC, which was partly why I pulled back from this site for a long time!
No we don't. (I can't believe it too so long for someone to say that! :))

Anyway I have a Twix account and I've posted on it about three times, and the last time I used it (post or read) was after our first match at the Amex. So it's fair to say I'm not a prolific user.

I'm not on Facebook, Instagram, Friends Reunited, Enemies Reconciled, etc etc. NSC is all the social media I do. My wife's on them all as she does all the 'keeping in contact' shit, I'm happy with email.

Been on X for about a year now, getting the hang of it. Its good for fast news and any fringe stuff you go looking for imo. Its also growing fast.
