Suppose you were ambling down the road after witnessing yet another Brighton & Hove Albion defeat in this 'season horribilus'when suddenly Beelzebub appears.

He offers you a choice.

a) Brighton stay up; but Harveys Brewery shuts

or

b) Harvey's Brewery remains a thriving independent Brewery, but the Albion are relegated.

The choice is yours!!

B 100% every time, no brainer. It's just a relegation. Now if the Devil offered me a choice between Harveys closing and us not getting Falmer .......

Just had it confirmed by Miles Jenner: this sale story is 100% untrue. Harveys will be sold only "over a number of dead bodies" and is not for sale, not talking to anybody and doing very well. He is incredulous that this rumour has spread and wonders if it started when news broke that Courage is shutting the Lewes depot.

So relax. Harveys is not for sale or closing. Just as we thought.

Good work Monkey Man.

However..... "The Goldstone has not been sold" seemed to flash to the forefront of my brain when I read that.

Now, that's a toughie. Obviously, most of us going to prefer Harveys to remain but at the expense of Brighton's future....?

I'd have to choose the stadium that time - but what a choice.

My son will be 18 in - er - 14 years' time. And I can guarantee that his first legal pint bought by me will be a pint of Harveys, brewed in Lewes. Shame his first Brighton game won't be at the Goldstone, but there you go.

Deffo not happening. Spoke to the Harveys lady down my local and she said rumours like this are always abound. "Harveys is into its seventh generation, the buissness is their baby and there is no way its going anywhere." :clap2:

I never claimed the rumour was true.

Simply that I'd heard it. From two quite separate sources, both of whom had got it from the Shepherd Neame camp.

I'm delighted that Miles Jenner has said it's not true.

Now that is a true vision of heaven. How great would it be to have Harveys on tap at the promised land? Sod the new striker, Dick Knight, this is where your priorities lie, make it happen!

I like the Trevor, I'm good friends with Dick, Peter and Di and I had my 18th birthday party there, but you can't deny that it looks shabby.

It's a cracking pub and far from a 'shithole' but it is in dire need of a lick of paint. I reckon an investment of no more than £5000 would see it right.

It's just neglect. It's like so many pubs these days.

I'm wondering actually how many pubs will take the new smoking ban as an oppertunity to freashen things up a bit. With no one smoking in them new carpet and paint will get rid of all the stale smoke smell.

Probably a lick of paint, but I don't think many will put in new carpet as it's so expensive. When I was working in a pub, we wanted to get new carpet but because it has to meet fire regulations you can't use any old stuff and it would have cost upwards of £20,000.

But how likely is this going to be? Companies will be asked to tender for the drinks concession and you just know that it will be won by one of the big drinks chains - the only question will be whether we'll be offered Carling, Carlsberg or Fosters.

It's a crying shame but there's more chance of Melanie Cutress becoming secretary of the supporters' club than Harveys being on sale at Falmer.
