With NSC 'off air' I went on to brightonfans.com just as Yorkie was laying down the law.
Clearly this lady is not for turning and knows exactly what right and what's wrong hence my comparison with Maggie.
If anyone has taken offence at this comment I apologise unreservedly...........

I disagree. This board isn't funded publicly, or made possible by a charter that enshrines the whole neutrality/right-of-reply thing.

It's simply unfair to lay into someone on the airwaves without giving them a chance to have their say.

However, I don't really know the background to this, so perhaps I'll stop talking now.

I don't agree on what you think the BBC should be, the programme is VERY much about comment and nobody was layed into at all.

It was a very light hearted comment to be honest and can't understand how ANYONE could have taken offence by it.

Better get apologising on brightonfans.com me thinks, the comments on 'the Ian Hart show' don't seem to have gone down as well there:D

With all due respect Withdean an apology on NSC will suffice, given the alleged 'furore' om the other site maybe the comment wasn't that far off the mark after all.....:)

There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.

Considering the said person has always backed up any argument against the 'Iron Lady' i am somewhat surprised at the reaction, would of thought it would of been taken as a compliment.

You refer to the Falklands debate & the miner's strike debate. I don't see where she has backed up everything that Maggie did. Agreeing with a couple of actions (that she was personally involved with & saw the effects of) does not mean wholesale backing or support.

Have pm'd her to apologise and offered to make a donation to her chosen charity.
So lets all move on.........

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
I was a miner, I was a docker
I was a railwayman between the wars
I raised a family in time of austerity
With sweat at the foundry, between the wars
I paid the union and as times got harder
I looked to the government to help the working man
They brought prosperity, down at the armoury
We're arming for peace, my boys, between the wars

I kept the faith and I kept voting,
Not for the iron fist, but for the helping hand
Theirs is a land with a wall around it
And mine is a faith in my fellow man
Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
Mine is the peace we knew between the wars

Call up the craftsmen, bring me a draughtsman
Build me a path from cradle to grave
And I'll give my consent to any government
That does not deny a man a living wage
Go find the young men, never to fight again
Call up the banners from the days gone by
Sweet moderation, the heart of this nation,
Desert us not, we are between the wars

(the mumbling is said to be "And behold when they opened the sixth door
there was a great earthquake,
and the sun became black as sackcloth

She certainly has Maggie's sense of humour. It was perhaps not Harty's best moment, but there was no need for a reaction either. If you can't laugh at yourself then lighten up a bit, it's only a bit of banter.
