The phrase Paki which originally was short for a person originally from Pakistan changed somewhere along the line into a insult (as you so elequently informed us all in that famous debate) as opposed to raghead which has been rude from the very beginning of its use.

We all say things on the spur of the moment and what Harty said was misconstrued as he was telling certain NSCers to go and lick a window for embarrassing themselves on the thread about replacing MA. Hawsey compounded this gaffe though by asking windowlickers to call the phone-in line. It was after the 9pm watershed and on-air apologies were made. We are supposed to live in a democratic society so have to tolerate what may be offensive to some people or otherwise we go down the slippery road to state censorship. Radio would be extremely boring if there was a 30 second delay to edit out what was considered not politically correct , Ian Hart is our own version of the American shock-jocks.

As a volunteer with BSAG (Brighton Social Anxiety Group) and having both a sister and father with mental health issues I have to say that I had no issue with Harty's 'off the cuff' remark. I bet a bloody high percentage of those complaining have done similar in their time, they'd probably be bullshitting if they say they haven't... There is no replacement for Harty for the phone-in, unless of course you wan't a club 'licker' doing it (excuse the phrase) where everyone just says ''didn't we play well'' after 0-4 home drubbing and ''never mind'' after the stadium gets delayed again until 2024... Is that what you all want?

Out of 12 pages this is the most sensible thread i have read to do with this, (I am sure there are others but i can't be arsed to wade through all 12 pages)

It is all to easy to critise from behind a keyboard, (and i don't doubt i am guilty of this at times) but some are actually calling for Ian to either resign or be sacked for this, absolute rubbish !!

I do not know Ian personally (but someone I would like to meet) but i am aware that he is Brighton & Hove Albion, through and through, he lives and breathes the club, and in my opionion does nothing but good for the club.

This whole tedious witch-hunt is as distasteful as the comments that sparked it, though. Its an internal issue now, between Ian and his bosses, and I hope he gets no more than a reprimand, personally.

He apologised quickly - and repeatedly - he was genuinely contrite. If he is being reprimanded by his bosses I'm not surprised (given his history of gaffs) but you've got to hope that it doesn't go any further than that. It's a shame to see people gunning for him to be sacked.
